Excelent food and service!

We were here at our first night in Amsterdam and this was a good start! I got extra big portions because I was extra hungry:-) Everything melted in our mouths, the veal cheak was the best.

My wife and I had been out walking in Amsterdam and I spotted the sign for the restaurant, and reviewed the menu. I then put it on the list of places to visit. As it turned out, we went there for dinner on our last night in Amsterdam, and without intending to do so, managed to save the best for... More

This is now a hotel restaurant, though it apparently used to be separate, and has a street entrance as well as a hotel entrance. We ate there on a quiet early evening and had excellent service from our very friendly waitress (though we did feel a little sorry for her, as she kept getting waylaid by an Australian couple near... Hotel restaurants are not normally known for great food and service however this is the exception. Menu and wine list excellent. Prices reasonable. Atmosphere excellent as was the service from Restaurant Manager Daaniel and his staff. Loved the food and presentation. cant wait to go back...well done Daaniel, Chef and staff.

We are not 'fancy restaurant' people. We've dined at nice restaurants, but we prefer to just eat casually. We were staying at the hotel above the restaurant when we decided to try this 'fancy restaurant'. WOW! It was spectacular. The service was great, the food spectacular and the wines (we opted to not go for straight pairings, but wine based... More

I have stayed in the Dikker & Thijs hotel before but the restaurant was closed. Today it was open, I'm so glad it was. I had the 4 course menu, Tatare of Beefsteak to start, well prepared slightest hint of truffle, the best tartare I have ever eaten, next Veal cheek, wonderfully flavoured, deep rich jus, followed by candied duck,... Most restaurants in this area are tourist traps or not really memorable as far as food is concerned - Thijs, 2 steps from the Leidsestraat with its quirky tram-layout, is excellent for food and its waiters can be relied upon for knowledgeable and good wine recommendations.

We are glad we found this gem of a restaurant. Excellent food, excellent service and excellent wine in a good atmosphere .... We had the 4 course menu with wine pairing, and each course was prepared and served to perfection.
