Review on the Sand Giovanni

My search of the most epic Italian vegetarian lasagne continues! I would rate this one 3.5 out of 5. It took 45m for our hot food to arrive at our table. Babeguns 1 had veal which was rated 1 out of 5, for €20. Babeguns 2 had a steak which was cooked wrongly but still tasted 3.5 out of 5.

We were looking for somewhere to eat after travelling to Amsterdam when we stumbled upon San Giovanni. Staff were friendly and efficient, we both had pizza, I'm not a huge pizza lover but the pizza's were delicious, nice crispy base and just enough toppings. Restaurant was clean and we wouldn't hesitate to use again id ever in Amsterdam.

Good food good service but check what you order. Tasty food and waiter was very friendly and helpful. The only issue was that we ordered three cokes which were larger than a normal size so cost more more. Hardly worth grumbling about though.

As a group of 34 the restaurant was very accommodating the food was surprisingly quick even with the large number arriving. The staff were great and very helpful. Would recommend :-) Thanks from us all.

After busy day, needed something to eat, picked from their €9.99 menu, I wasn't asked how I wanted my steak cooked, waited about 10 mins, time to have a nice cold beer, food arrived, steak was perfect, succulent, it was tender and moist. Well worth the money

As soon as we got into the restaurant we saw that the organisation of the waiting staff and kitchen staff was lacking a lot. And as we were waiting for a waiter to take our order, we quickly noticed that the whole restaurant was messy; cleaning cloths on the bar stools, waiters running around like headless chickens and a very... First of all I like to underline that even if I write in English I am Italian and I live in Rome so is my wife! After a long day walking through the beautiful Amsterdam we decided it was time for dinner. As Waterlooplein Square is only a few steps away from the hotel where we were staying and we... More

It's pretty hard to mess up pizza or pasta, right? Wrong! Just go to San Goivanni! The menu states all pasta dishes are available as Spaghetti, Macaroni or Tagliatelle. So I ordered a Macaroni dish and was surprised to be brought a penne dish instead. I mean, how can an Italian chef be confused about the difference between Penne and... More

We went to eat lunch here and ordered off the menu. We ordered one pizza for three people for 9.50€ and one water for 2€ and two colas for 2 € each as the only option on the menu. The total should have been 15.50€. When the ticket came, it totaled 21.50€. Or 6€ more than stated on the menu.... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
