All i can say is: perfect. Nice and warm attitude of the waiter at the moment we entered the restaurant. Menu was in dutch, but waitress politely explained what is the food about and thoroughly answered all our questions. We ordered a drink to start with and were complimentarily offered a small greeting from kitchen as taste experience. We asked... More

The friendliest (and efficient) service you will see in Amsterdam. Catherine gives good and valuable recommendations on the menu, coordinates and oversees everything with professional calm and a smile. The food and wine are (nearly) as good as the service. All together this is worth a detour.

Go here! The food was divine, excellent value, and the atmosphere and location are very cool but with an extremely warm and genuine welcome. You are well looked after here. For main course we paid a little extra (the 3 course menu is 33E so excellent value) and had the beef for two..... Completely fabulous, I'll be dreaming about that... More

Last night visiting family and ourselves were greeted with smiles as we entered Rijsel. The building, the room, open kitchen, even the WC was understated “cool”. The waiter took his time explaining the menu, his english translation was perfect, he spoke clearly and slowly, then asked if we had any questions. The meal was wonderful, wine excellent, all 3 courses... More

My first night in Amsterdam and I managed to secure a reservation, the service was exceptional, the front of house team were very engaging, and we're very thorough in their menu descriptions. The chef team in the open kitchen looked calm and focused during a busy dinner service and producing superb dishes. It was an awesome dining experience, one I... More

We visited Rijsel on our first night in Amsterdam and despite being a little late we were made to feel nothing but welcome. The menu is entirely in Dutch however our waiter took at least 10 minutes to go through the menu with us as well as explaining the house specialities. The food was superb and exceeded our expectations in... More

Rijsel has been a hit ever since it opened its doors, I reckon a year and a half ago. Set in an old school building, the interior is simple - wooden tables and chairs, placed quite close to each other, and an open kitchen. The food is simple but amazing: fresh potatoes, salad, great fish and of course chicken from... More

Rijsel is so popular you have to reserve, preferably a long time in advance, but believe the hype. It serves really no-nonsense food (mainly French) - fish soups, terrines, roast chicken, steak, etc. There are some vegetarian options too. Dishes come with un-fussy platters of green salad, roast potatoes and other simple but delicious sides. The wine, cheese and sweets... More
