Located in a street that seems to be full of good restaurants, Max caught our attention with their creative and unusual fusion/international menu. The funky, colourful interior worked better than expected, some might find the music a bit loud, but for us it actually suited the place. This is a busy little gem which excels in customer service and the... More

I think TA over scores this place. It is buzzy and in a good area. But everything was just OK and some of the cooking was not that great. The fusion food was too hot most of the time. I can take madras curry easily but this chilli heat was too much - it drowned the food just leaving loads... More

Fabulous food in a fabulous setting, no nonsens service. Second visit and was just as expected. We all ate something different and we all agreed that the food was absolutely delicious. Scallops with cinnamon, asparagus with wild salmon, lamb with French coconut sauce and the spicy Indonesian fish were excellent also our wines Rioja and Ripasso Valpolicella were great. Nice... More

Flavors are superb and food is cooked to perfection. Love the Dutch asparagus specials, dessert the crispy banana pie with the cocont sauce is fantastic. All... More

We didn't have a booking but the friendly staff made us feel welcome. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and the Indonesian twist is inspired

One thing that I love about food in Amsterdam (or maybe the entire Netherlands) is that it seems to be fresh and made to order. I didn't feel that this was true at MAX. The food felt "cookie cutter" and lacking life. I went for the Asian dishes, my dining companion the European ones. I would agree that the Asian... More

Thank you for taking your time to review us and I'm sorry that you might have different expectations about our food and the restaurant but you can't compare Indonesian food with other well known good Asian stir fried food. Indonesian food has a well slow cooking style, it takes hours to give it's deeply taste before we can create this... More

Don't really remember what I had but I went for the more "Asian" inspired dishes and they where all great. My girlfriend had the European dishes and they where mediocre. Service was good, nothing ordinary.

This restaurant lives up to it's excellent reviews. The fusion cooking gave delightful tastes which were quite unique. Service superb. A little pricey but worth it for a special trip.

Thank you for your nice review. We do our best to create new dishes by using the real taste of old fashion Mama's slow cooking Indonesian food with the modern way of presentation and also present the European classics with our Max' touch. More

In my recent visit to Amsterdam I insisted I must have Indonesian food :) The group of friends I was with were not really into it, but were eventually convinced. Max turned out to be a great choice, even for my skeptic friends. We showed up a party of nine (!) and were warmly received. Great atmosphere in a cool... More

Went in search of Indonesian food. Max is small but popular. The atmosphere is charming and suited for a special romantic night out. The food was nicely presented. Our waiter answered our questions with knowledge. The dishes were superbly prepared. My wife had lamb that was just as she desired - medium rare. My chicken curry was delightful.
