Open only for dinner, starting at 6pm. Adventurous food in a Cosmopolitan setting, located in the heart of Amsterdam's most beautiful canal area. MAX is a place to explore a new International cuisine with the additional flavours of MamaMax' traditional Indonesian home cooking. Fresh and sparkling spiced. Creative but no nonsens food. Forget the expectation of an old fashion Indonesian restaurant or these days trendy Michellin star copy of deconstructive foam and lines attractions on your plate but enjoy simply our well cooked food, nice setting and friendly service. MAX has a short uncomplicated interesting wine list, excellence wines for reasonable prices. Seperate room for function for groups.

Great to have different flavours in Amsterdam

The 3 course Indonesian option is fabulous. We ate the satay chicken salad, mixed main course which includes 10 small dishes to share. The final course was the layered spice cake with mango sorbet and coconut ice cream which was delicious. Small but good wine list. Recommend booking as very busy.

The star of this place is the food. Service is good too but the waiters are very foo foo, if that makes sense. Like not very down to earth. I'm fine with that because the food is delicious and its a "nice" restaurant. We didnt "dress up" to much to go but the service people acted like maybe we should... More

The food in this restaurant is top end and amazing. I've eaten at many top restaurants and this one is definitely up there. I went expecting ordinary Indonesian food - it's much better than that. Indonesian fusion - so Indonesian with a European twist. My son had a delicious gravalax with mango and chilli and my chicken satay was exceptionally... More

A little bit out of the way past the Anne Frank House museum but definitely worth trying. We chose the Indonesian rijstafel- a tasting menu of 9 or 10 small dishes served with rice. Starter was a chicken satay on an Asian salad and this was a good size helping. Our favourites from the tasting dishes were the beef rendang,... More

Thank you for sharing that you enjoyed your favourites: the spicy beef and the chicken coconut cream curry. The aubergine sauted with lime leaves is also my favourite one. With the best intentions to let you enjoy the food and service we wait sometime on purpose a little before we serve the dessert, but this time it might be a... More

I booked in advance for a Friday night, as my partner had never had Indonesian food and I know Amsterdam has some pretty good choices. Like several other reviews, the restaurant was not busy when we arrived. This can be a red flag, but it soon filled up and before long they were turning away plenty of passing trade. We... More

My partner and I booked this restaurant based on previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. Friendly service and good food options. We had the two course option which included the Sea Bass. The food was excellent. Would drop by next time we are in Amsterdam.

Thank you for your nice review and it's a pleasure to welcome you again when visiting Amsterdam next time. Try also the Lamb with port sauce and coconut curry and the crispy skinned confit de canard. More

My first, but not the last visit to MAX. Very friendly helpful staff and very tasty Indonesian food. 5 of us there and we opted for the taster menu, delicious and we were even given additional plates of those we especially enjoyed.

Thank you for enjoying our food and we are happy to serve our guests more food, more what you like most. It's our policy: no wasting food by serving too much food but pampering our guests with their favourite ones. It pleases us to welcome you again with more good food :-). More

booked in advance by my partner, this restaurant is very friendly, not a big choice of food and drinks but well recommended and great quality. Service is great and also staff come few times to check with you. I definitely suggest for a nice evening.

Coping with a noisy group of people on a business team event (from all over the world) can not have been easy! We visited here during a conference. We had the entire restaurant, and therefore all sat to eat at once. We had not made choices in advance, and yet everyone's meal arrived at once, and there was not a... More
