This indonesian restaurant named Max from the owner Max is a really good restaurant in the western canal district. The special 3 dish meny is derved with local indonesian cooking style with a starter, then a platter of 6 different dishes with rice, here you can min as you want. Finally the dessert is a plate with fruits, icecream, cake... More

As I've only ever eaten Indonesian food in Amsterdam and the time before this was 14 years ago I have no idea how this fusion cuisine differs from the norm. Our host said it was less spicy but it was plenty spicy for me - and I like hot food. It was all really great, we went for the 3... More

We enjoyed the tasting menu here, we liked the look of it and although we hadn't booked they gave us a table on the understanding we would leave by 9, this was perfect for us and worked well. The food was varied and tasty, the staff helpful and the service good, the place was full and there was a good... More

Well, we've never had an Indonesian fusion food but it was fantastic! This is in a quiet street but close to the central Amsterdam. The decor is quite nice as well as the service. They offer 2 and 3 course meals and all the dishes we had were great. They also offer Indonesian tasting menu but we did not have... More

We were excited to eat here but were very disappointed. We found the flavors of the appetizers to be unbalanced and the menu in-cohesive. The Indonesian dishes were too spicy and didn't enable the other flavors to show through. Also the service from one particular waitress was very arrogant so we would not return. We enjoyed our meals at Seasons... More

I'm sorry for your disappointment in our spicy flavours but glad that you've found your right balance of taste at next door's restaurant. That's so nice about our street: different restaurants with different tastes. More

Chose this restaurant after reading trip advisor reviews. Excellent dining experience. Both myself and my partner had the taster menu which basically means you get to sample a good selection of dishes. Upon finishing our meal we were asked if there were any dishes that we particularly liked.....of course there were plenty, the waiter then bought out more of the... More

Our hotel recommended Max's Restaurant and it was excellent! The food is superb and are original dishes created by the chef! Definitely order the tasting menu for true Indonesian food. I was concerned because they said some of the food is spicy, and I generally can only tolerate a little bit of "heat." But the spice didn't bother me at... More

We asked for a recommendation for Thai food at our hotel and she recommended Max's restaurant. Well, it wasn't Thai food but it was one of the most amazing meals I have had in a long time. I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she suggested the scallops. Unbelievable! Cooked to perfection. She also suggested the lamb. She said... More

Thank you for placing a nice review about us and thanks also the hotel that they recommend us as an alternative tasty restaurant. Sometime it's hard to describe our cuisine, it's International, it's fusion but it's also a bit classic style of cooking. Glad that you enjoyed our style of cooking. Hope we will meet (again) :-) Max More

Really lovely little restaurant nestled in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam, not too far from Dam Square. The restaurant is small, with a mezzanine level overlooking the main area, and is simply but tastefully decorated. It seemed to be popular with both locals and those visiting the area when we visited, and their was a really nice atmosphere with a... More

Thank you for placing this friendly review and happy to know that all of you have enjoyed the dinner at MAX restaurant. Amsterdam is beautiful and the area around the Herenstraat is lovely. It's beautiful and very central located but away from the tourists massm. A lively neighboorhood with many International residents and it's International buzz with the typical Amsterdam's... More

This was a good meal in Amsterdam, but nothing special. Scallops really were wonderful, but the other dishes that my wife and I had were just fine, including the duck, chicken satay and the vegetable curry. While the food tasted good, the spices were a bit bland. Ambiance was ok, nothing special. Decent and affordable wine list. Service was very... More

Thank you for your review and glad to read that you liked the good food even it was different than you expected. We have an International menu with a special twist on the classics. De scallops and duck (confit de canard) are a bit different but they aren't Indonesian at all. If you like to eat Indonesian, order our Indonesian... More
