Description: Open only for dinner from Tuesday till Sunday. Adventurous food in a Cosmopolitan setting, located in the heart of Amsterdam's most beautiful canal area. MAX is a place to explore the New International cuisine with the additional respect of the flavours of MamaMax' traditional Indonesian home cooking and the use of fresh ingredients. Creative but no nonsens food. Forget the expectation of an old fashion Indonesian restaurant look or the trendy deconstructive foam attractions but enjoy our good food, nice setting and friendly service. MAX has a short uncomplicated interesting wine list, excellence wines for reasonable prices. Seperate room for function for groups.

We tried the non indonesian food as we had recently had rijsttafel so we opted for the fried scallops, lamb filet / seabass in bananaleaf and we shared a wonderful banana desert called Max special. The food was more than delicious, it was top notch. The scallops melted in our mouths and were prepared in an unusual manner with a... More

Two of us had booked a table in advance but found when we arrived on time that we had to go upstairs where we would be the only diners. We might nevertheless have agreed to this if the staff member who received us had been pleasant - which she was anything but; in reality she made uis feel very uncomfortable... More

Sadly and truly that the few bad reviews what we had are written by those who never had dinned at our restaurant. They wrote the reviews because they just want it, only bad air and nothing to do with a dining experience. To be the first one entering a room doesn't mean that you will stay the only one for... It's the third time we visited this great and informal restaurant. It has an international menu, but the best items are the Indonesian ones. We taste the taste as we did in Indonesian. In combination with the really friendly ans helping crew, we can advise this restaurant.

We visit Amsterdam nearly every year, and have tried many restaurants. Some of which we have loved, and like to revisit, others we have put down to experience. We have, however, never managed to try a cuisine for which Amsterdam has a reputation - Indonesian. So, on our recent four day trip we booked a table at Max Restaurant on... More

Thank you for your lovely compliments. We are happy that we are doing good business, it's always busy, full restaurant every day. A good tip: if you come early around 6.30pm the restaurant won't be noisy. The room will slowly filled up and you will be also slowly part of the buzz. Hope to welcome you soon again. Regards, Max More

I lived in Indonesia for a decade and am very familiar with the food. We went to Max and they have taken the old traditional favorites and made them modern. The tasting menu was superb and i must say this is the very Indonesian food I have had in a very, very long time. The restaurant is trendy and set... More

MAX is one of a kind. The Indonesion dishes are authentic but with a modern twist: delicious! The restaurant is not too big, which gave us a homely feeling, not like the big tourist places. Also The Herenstraat, where the restaurant is located, is a cosy little street in a great neighbourhood with numberous boutique-style shops: this is the real... More

I would fly back to Amsterdam just to taste the sensational dishes from Max's once again. The scallop starter was divine, every mouthful amazed me and the cinnamon caramel sauce was unreal. The spicy chicken salad was beautiful, light but oh so flavoursome and the indonesian seabass filet was so full of complementary flavours and spices, I was left in... More

My husband and I had a fantastic evening at Max. The staff were extremely helpful with recommendations and were very attentive throughout. From delicious delicate scallops to the fiery kick of the beef curry and ending with perfectly cooked sea bass, our taste buds were tempted, tickled and tantelized. We left happy and full. Thanks to the amazing service and... More

I recently ate at Max with my husband a 2 grown up children and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had not eaten Indonesian food before so the tasting menu was excellent and gave us a wide selection of tasty treats to try out. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - they were extremely welcoming and friendly. I would... More
