Small, intimate restaurant , food was good, some dishes were great. Modern style with great lounge music. Attentive hosts. We tried the Indonesian "rice table". Great satay salad as starters, several curries and side dishes as main course. Dessert inspired from Asia is usually not great but this one was! Try the coconut ice cream. Many of the guests were... It is hidden in one of the little streets, but was really worthy to be found! The food, presentation were excellent ! The atmosphere was so warm, welcoming and friendly, we didn't want to leave! One of the best dinners in Amsterdam!

Whilst on a weekend break we felt we needed to indulge in the delights that Mama Max had to offer. All of the dishes were inspired, decadent, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Anything with Mama's special sauce on it is a must have.

Great food, we had the sharing platter which meant we ate stuff we wouldn't normally pick off a menu, but we were glad we did the selection was outstanding. God service and nice atmosphere, little way out of the way though but worth the walk.

We are visiting from the United States, where we had a bad rice table some years ago... I hoped this would be at least passable. Well, it was astounding. Fantastic tastes, well prepared and served, from the delicious lemongrass scented salad through the little dishes that included fish wrapped in a banana leaf, tender beef cooked 12 hours, taste saturated... I was told this was the best Indonesian place to eat. It is good, but there are other good places too. The decor is not fancy, rather downmarket actually, however there is a good ambiance and and the staff are friendly. The menu looked interesting and varied. My meal started well enough with the popular salmon and mango salsa dish.... More

I travel to Holland quite frequently to visit my boyfriend. When I fly in to Amsterdam, we will stay in the city and go out for a romantic dinner. Max's is where we love to go for our dinner. There are many great restaurants in Amsterdam but Max's stands out. The food is unique to what Asian cuisines we have... More

had the rice table for 2 people. The food was tasty and plentiful. The starter and the aubergine dish were my favourites. Followed by a dessert to share that was nice. Staff were friendly . Maybe a little pricey... But normal for Amsterdam.
