food sharing at its best

Sharing food from a mutual plate in rustic, relaxed atmosphere, and drinking wine from a concise but yet well diversified wine list was very intriguing to me. portions are not very large, but including a cheese platter I was well fed.

Service, food, and atmosphere were all excellent. Very clear that this is a well run restaurant where everyone from chefs to waitstaff takes pride in the establishment. Dinner options were 6 and 9 course meals. Menu changes frequently.

Tucked away in a quiet a few blocks away from the Central Train Station, this gem is a must do in Amsterdam. Your choices are limited, either a four course or seven course meal, your meal is decided for you. You will not be disappointed! The kitchen and staff are part of the ambience, and you will walk out thanking... More

A wonderful selection of creative courses for the weary sightseer. Stop at HIPS next door for a yummy cocktail and Gebr for a fantastic meal.

I could give details about the meal but it doesn't matter really, since everything was top-shelf. The place is very unassuming and small, but we were able to snag a 2-top for the same evening. Open-air kitchen, great atmosphere and vibe, outstanding service. I asked if they had a Michelin star and the response was no: only because the WC... More

Its great! Worth the price. I found it hard to find a decent place in Amsterdam for dinner, that wasn't a total tourist trap. I've taken my parents here and I've taken my girlfriend here. (One separate occasions) I always find it best to have the waiter help you pick your dish when you are a visitor in a different... More

Definitely perfect !!! I strongly recommend you guys to visit this cosy restaurant. By the way don't forget to drink your coffee or wine on the wooden benches infront of the restaurant.

10) It'll be cheaper (only joking the food is worth it) 9) Order than 8 course fixed menu rather than the 4 8) When you fall down/up the tight, small, steep staircase to the restrooms your partner will not be there to laugh at you 7) No need to spoil the experience by having to hold a conversation 6) No... Had planned to dine at the restaurant across the street but after comparing street view ambience chose Gebr and made a 7 pm reservation for two nights later. Arrived on time and were offered a choice of two tables for 4. Selected the one adjacent to the door with views to the canal and street. Good choice, bigger table size.... More

We were visiting Amsterdam from NYC. We spent time in the morning researching Michelin restaurants, checking them out in Trip Advisor, but couldn't find anything perfect. Walking to a tourist destination, we walked past this restaurant, and loved the wines displayed in the windows. So we entered & asked about the menu. We liked the idea of a fixed menu... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
