Pricey, Fine Food and Service

Had planned to dine at the restaurant across the street but after comparing street view ambience chose Gebr and made a 7 pm reservation for two nights later. Arrived on time and were offered a choice of two tables for 4. Selected the one adjacent to the door with views to the canal and street... read more

Its great! Worth the price. I found it hard to find a decent place in Amsterdam for dinner, that wasn't a total tourist trap. I've taken my parents here and I've taken my girlfriend here. (One separate occasions) I always find it best to have the waiter help you pick your dish when you are a visitor in a different... More

Definitely perfect !!! I strongly recommend you guys to visit this cosy restaurant. By the way don't forget to drink your coffee or wine on the wooden benches infront of the restaurant.

10) It'll be cheaper (only joking the food is worth it) 9) Order than 8 course fixed menu rather than the 4 8) When you fall down/up the tight, small, steep staircase to the restrooms your partner will not be there to laugh at you 7) No need to spoil the experience by having to hold a conversation 6) No... We were visiting Amsterdam from NYC. We spent time in the morning researching Michelin restaurants, checking them out in Trip Advisor, but couldn't find anything perfect. Walking to a tourist destination, we walked past this restaurant, and loved the wines displayed in the windows. So we entered & asked about the menu. We liked the idea of a fixed menu... More

This place is certainly magic, it makes your cash disappear in a puff of smoke and mirrors. The set menu was a complete rip off. The courses were served up one small plate between two people. I have never been in a place with such tight portion control, one course consisted of an egg, lettuce and a few diced potato?... More

This is a very small cosy restaurant with the perfect atmosphere. No menu to choose from, there is only a choice between a six and nine course meal. I would strongly recommend the 9 course otherwise some might have the feeling of having enough. We changed in between after first deciding the 6 course. The wine menu is good and... More

With so much going on in the restaurant business with fusion, moleculair cooking and the bio industry, view and taste are setting new standards every day. There are "hypes" in food what's IN and NOT more then ever.. so much is rated to wath you are "used to" and what you find special and exciting in food and drinks.. BUT..... More

The service was great and well informed, the food was lovely and varied (we had the six course tasting menu), the dining setting was intimate and interesting. And the bill was digestible too! We were a couple and we loved it but this would be a great place for a small group of friends too.

This place was a recommendation from the mighty Niven. Fantastic - surprise menu, fantastic simple but deliciously basic food - great wine list and amazing steak. Small so book early.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
