This charming little spot at basement level was reasonably priced and very good. The three-course prix fixe menu had choices of five items for each course, and is a good deal. The two of us had the coconut carrot soup and beef carpaccio (slight price supplement) for appetizers, Mains were brioche with goat cheese and tomatoes, and Belgian beef stew.... More

We went there on our first night in Amsterdam after stumbling accross it in the Tripadvisor App. I was looking for something different and yet did not want to break the bank. We walked from Dam square, but one can easily hop on the Tram to Herenchracht. We almost walked past as the area was very quite. It looked like... More

We went to this restaurant on our trip to Amsterdam based on the Lonely Planet. Often such restaurants deteriorate soon after being mentioned in the LP, but this one was truly awesome. De Struisvogel is very small in the basement of a canal house (about 40 people can sit there), about 10 min walk from Dam Square. One selects a... More

We had not booked in advance but there was a spare table in a restaurant that seemed to be getting busier by the minute. We sat down at 6.30 and thoroughly enjoyed our two hours here. The food was fabulous - my wife and I both had a goat's cheese and strawberry salad starter. It was fabulous. Main course -... More

Recommendation from a friend as we were staying at the Pulitzer around the corner. You can walk by this place a 100 times without noticing it, but you should not miss dinner here. They were out if Ostrich when we were there, but it didn't matter. The small kitchen was churning out fantastic food from appetizer to dessert. Do not... More

Central, really close to the Estheria hotel, where we stayed. After the first visit we liked it so that returned in a day again with more family members and friends - everybody was satisfied. This restaurant is a good example of a simple interior, friendly service and tasty food with a very good price/value ratio. We tried almost everything during... More

I was initially apprehensive when we first entered this basement-level restaurant. It's certainly fairly "intimate" (i.e.tightly packed) but thankfully the ventilation was good and I soon felt comfortable. We had the fixed price menu which seemed the best value. My main course, a stew of organic pork in beer, was particularly good. Food presentation was good and the staff attentive... More

A group of around 23 of us took over the entire restaurant for one evening as part of a summer conference with work colleagues. Located below ground level, the restaurant has a welcoming feel and is traditionally decorated. It's run by a couple who took pride in ensuring that the service was top notch - from the initial welcome, to... More

Another great Tripadvisor find, near our hotel with a price fixed meal of 23 euros, for appetizer, entree and dessert. We did have a bottle of wine, so our total cost with tip was about 80 euros. The selections on the menu were interesting, the food delicious. Service was a bit slow, but the only server, Hanna, did a wonderful... More
