Better than it looks

As you approach the restaurant, it doesn't really look too appealing. We only ate here as we'd gone back to our hotel, time was getting on, we were hungry after a busy and tiring day exploring. The food is delicious but a bit overpriced, as was the wine and beers. The hamburger was €15 and then the... read more

To get you something after arriving without knowing absolutely nothing about Amsterdam is pretty good. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable with a view of the bar is impressive and can be seen from the tables located inside. Outside there are tables to observe a view of the Amstel Botel and a submarine that adorns the front of the... More

My family of 4, including 10 and 13 year old sons, recently visited for an early dinner. The restaurant is great inside and we enjoyed the ferry ride over. When we arrived we were asked what we were there for--"snacks" at the more casual tables near the bar, or "dinner" at the white tableclothed tables near the windows. We figured... More

We stayed nearby, at the Brooklyn Hotel, and had breakfast here nearly every morning of our 4 day stay. We were there early each morning and enjoyed the nice and reasonably priced breakfast offerings, along with the pretty view of the river. The coffee was good and the tea selection very nice.

A friend of mine and I went to IJ Kantine last week. We has never eaten there and for me it was the first time I even went there. IJ Kantine has a really nice view over the river IJ behind central station. We sat outside and saw the ferry come and go. Their was a family of ducklings chattering,... More

This hotel/restaurant is across the river got to by the free ferry crossing. Only takes 5 minutes so worth it just for a different view. This area of the river bank is not yet developed leaving this establishment in an odd sort of location, not sure if is residential or commercial. All that said the service was good and fairly... We wandered past looking for lunch. I got a Caesar salad with chips to share. My boyfriend got a club sandwich. The service was good. The waiters were all really nice. The food came out quickly. We had to ask for the bill at the end. Reasonable prices. The meals were huge and tasted great. We didn't need the chips.

We have only had coffee in here, no food so I can't comment on that though it looks good. We usually come in here for a coffee whilst waiting for the Pannenkoekenboot a few meters away. This place is great with kids, plenty of space, doesn't feel like the kids are disturbing other peoples meals. There is a great indoor... More

My partner and I visited for his birthday meal on a recent trip to Amsterdam as it was on the doorstep of the botel where we were staying. Have to say overall we were unhappy, the service was poor. We were waiting for what felt like forever for our meal to come and then due to the claustrophobic feel I... More

I found this restaurant on the web site of the Amsterdam Tourism Council, under "childfriendly", and indeed it was. Already the way of getting there is already an adventury : a boatride on the free IJ-ferry from Amsterdam Central Station to NSDM Werf (every half hour, on the hour and half hour from NSDM wharf). The former cantine of one... More
