Nice place, welcoming staff

I'm probably not going to add anything new to what other reviews have already added as everyone seems to have had similar experience. As such I'll be brief. Had a delicious meal here. Very authentic Ethiopian. Just be aware they don't take credit cards. We werent aware of this until the bill arrived and only just had enough cash.

If you are in Amsterdam you must try to eat here! Absolutely delicious. We arrived around 6:45 and no reservation but the lovely guy serving made up a spot for us in the window. After reading the reviews we were happy with this. We tried the T'edj which was lovely and refreshing, although seemed to have a bit of kick.... More

Walking distance from where I stayed, Kilimanjaro offers authentic food from all over Africa. I arrived just before 6 pm midweek to learn there were only a couple of reserved tables and was able to be seated immediately. (Within the hour, 3/4 of the tables were full.) A South African cabernet paired with their African salad started my meal off... More

We arrived at about 8pm on a Friday evening and managed to get the last unreserved table (there are only 6 or 7 tables in the place). Food was delicious and the portions generous, the service was a little slow, but this may have been as there were only 2 members of staff (the other cook was in Ethiopia buying... More

Good food and a great setting. We had a traditional ethiopian meal. However slow and lacklustre service and they dont accept payments by cards .

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Amsterdam for 5 years. Very inconspicuous and welcoming with amazing food and friendly service. The menu is refreshed frequently but everything is prepared with care and attention and one cannot choose wrong. Highly recommended.

This restaurant has a very homely feel and was very busy with locals but they managed to fit us in. Would recommend a booking as many people were turned away. Servings were huge and food was well cooked and delicious! A great introduction to Ethiopian food- highly recommended!

There are some exotic meats on the menu, like antelope and crocodile, and the classic pancake and goo combination is great. Looks run-down on the inside, but this somehow helps the atmosphere. Very friendly staff, possibly family-run.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
