Rice up your life

We were told Amsterdam is the international capital of the Indonesian cuisine. While we have not been able nor qualified to make such a test, the visit to Blauw really made our gastro day in Amsterdam. Rice table is something no one should miss - tasty, interesting, spicy, funny...not a cheap treat... read more

This is my second time doing the Indonesian rijstoffel while in Amsterdam. Blauw has a very welcoming dining area and the perfect mood lighting. The portions are farely generous by European standards. If you order the rijstoffel there really is no need to order anything else. There is so much food provided and for the price tag of 31 Euros... Although recommended as one of Amsterdams top 5 Indonesian restaurants for rijstafel, it did not leave up to the expectation. Part of the food when it arrived was not hot. We wanted to go for 6 p.m. or later (according to internet restaurant opens at 6 p.m.) We then made a reservation in the Internet and - wonder - it... More

Location: It is quite a distance from the city centre, and I was very confused trying to get there as the nearest metro station Amsteelveenseweg is closed until the 15th of August. The tram to take in place is Tram number 2, and not tram number 5 albeit its destination of Amstelveenseweg. Food: Despite being Malaysian, I found the level... More

having tried many Indonesian restaurants in my own town, this one is really one of the best to go for the rijsttafel, delicious flavours in a perfect modern setting. Please book in advance ! You Will love it! Terima kasih

Very nice evening with the family. My wife and I had the amazing rice tafel and the kids (7 - 10 yo) had a special (for kids) that is not in the menu. Cool ambience and attentive staff

The choice was wide and appetising. Well prepared and nicely presented with charming and helpful service. They had made good use of the available space, the added mezzanine in particular was very pleasant. Far enough out from the centre to be genuine in food and range of clientele. Avisable to book ahead. Well worth a visit.

My mom simply loves Indonesian food. Visiting from across the country, she couldn't pass up the chance to have a dinner at famed Blauw restaurant. So we booked a table well in advance as they are booked solid daily and made our way there on a Sunday night. Blauw is located at Amstelveenseweg near Vondelpark's far exit, on a strip... More

This was simply epic. It's a bit outside of city center but the service, food and presentation were excellent. I was looking forward to this for a month after reading the New York Times piece and was not disappointed. My wife and I split the 31 (37?) rijstaffel (10 euro split fee) and were stuffed. Yum!

Blauw was the lowlight for our trip to Amsterdam, where we had high expectations for its Indonesian restaurants. Stay away from beef dishes as they are bone dry. The "spicy" beef is extremely mild and may have had a chilli flake brush up against it at some point. Service is inattentive and required reminders. Not good value. Does not keep... More
