Rijsttafel!

While in Amsterdam, I really wanted to try a rijsttafel but my husband can't eat curry or anything spicy. We found Soenda Kelapa while strolling the Utrechtsestraat, and since it had a la carte dishes other than rijsttafel, he warily agreed to humour me and try the place. He was relieved that the... read more

I do not recommend to go there. Touristes place. The inside of the restaurant is cut. The waitress is nice We had the Rijsttafle : it is not cheap (50 euros for 2) and there is a lot. But a lot of rice and a lot of cabagge and carrot in coconut water. 3 types of meat were nice There... More

While traveling in Holland we wanted to try an Indonesian rice table and someone at our hotel in Amsterdam recommended this restaurant. It is located on Utrechtsestraat, a busy street which made it easy to find. The place appeared to be quite small and quaint upon entering but upstairs there was much more seating. We enjoyed the variety of 8... More

We ate a late dinner upstairs and thoroughly enjoyed the spicy beef, fish in pepper sauce and vegetables. Portions are large from the a la carte menu and the price makes this a great value for your money. Staff were very helpful.

We were too late too book in to the highly rated Tempo Doeloe just down the road. Soenda looked a little downmarket in comparison but the friendly staff and the very tasty food just go to prove that paying for a nice tablecloth doesn't improve the taste of the meal. Very enjoyable at a very reasonable price.

Trying an Indonesian restaurant is mandatory- right???. Well- maybe we picked the wrong place or ordered incorrectly but our dinner here was just plain weird. Tried 2 satays- the shrimp was really fishy and the veggie very mundane. The veggies in hot peanut sauce sounded great- it wasn't. Nothing had much of an esthetic appeal either- actually the opposite. We... More

Nestled between Indonesian competitors on the trendy Utrechtsestraat, this small, yet attractive Indonesian restaurant serves Indonesian food as it should be. We had a rijsttafel for 2 with the tastiest small dishes. Some hot, some cold, spicy and not spicy, sweet, sour, various meats, veggies, karupuk, you name it. Reminded me of my mother's cooking who was born in Surabaya.... More

The restaurant from the street shows an attractive ambiance. However, we had to sit upstairs which is the exact opposite. Dim and unattractive it seems to not even be the same restaurant. We ordered the food, and after 1 hour, we inquired about where it might be. We were told they would get it asap. 10-15 minutes later, just as... More

This unassuming and quite small restaurant has a very good rijstaffel - the staff are also helpful. It is a good place to go if you feel like a standard but good quality Indonesian buffet.

This Indonesian restaurant offers interesting sets with various small dishes. There was plenty for vegetarian, and the chicken and beef dishes were tasty. Sauces were mainly peanut satay and a coconut milk base which was very tasty. Service was excellent and prompt, and I would highly recommend this for a different dining experience.
