A very nice Dutch typical meal. High quality and not expensive place to try the dutch herring! Not so tourist and delicious!

Rob's fish shop is tucked away in the Zoutsteeg, a small since street between Damrak and Nieuwendijk (near Dam square). It is about as traditional as it gets: a small space, two basic wooden tables, with Rob behind a display counter with fish. Rob is very friendly and always in for a funny comment or two. Take the fresh (salted)... More

Rob is my hero of the zoutsteeg! I recommend the haring with onions and pickle, no bread. It is a classic and well served by the always friendly and talkative Rob. Unfortunately he is not allowed to fry the fish during the day so he does that early in the morning every day, hence the fried fish products are from... More

I really don't know why I even bother using Trip Advisor sometimes. It has led me to a number of bad places that for whatever reason are popular. Stopped in here after all the positive reviews. I only ordered some kibbeling and it was awful. Fresh from the microwave, inedible, rubbery, dry and tasteless. Disgusting. Tossed it right in the... More

I have to say that I don't like herring but I always come to this small restaurant to get a traditional herring sandwich with onion and pickles, always delicious and Rob is such a nice guy that the whole experience is always fantastic!

Tiny place selling herring which had been treated in brine then served in bread rolls with a garnish. Very jovial staff. Easy to find just off the Damrak on the side where most of the restaurants are

Holland is famous for its pickled herring. We made sure we had some prior to our departure. It was the best ever. Usually the amount of vinegar is too much for me, not this time. It was so fresh. The eel was good but the herring was better. This is a must for everyone prior to leaving the country.

We visited Rob for a break during our city tour! Following his advice we ate a gorgeous haring sandwich! Bob is a big and great (nothern) sea man!

The place to go for a herring, eel and other fishy stuff. Friendly service, freshly prepared albeit in humble surroundings. Have been going every year for decades

We enjoyed having a quick lunch here. The quality of the fish was tremendous and we loves the atmosphere of the place. Would mostly recommend the herring sandwich.
