We've found this place "accidentally" yet it is so easy to find coming from Damrak!! The owner is the nicest person in whole city I guess :) The place is small yet very cosy. You can choose from many types of fish, which names I don't remember, but what I do remember is the taste..... OMG... read more

The staff were very friendly and had a good sense of humour. The 3 of us ordered 3 differently marinated herring with bread a 2 slices of pickle. None are worth raving about. Scandinavians do a hell of a better job with herring.

What others have said is true - the guy running this place is very friendly. The salted herring on a roll with onions and gherkins (the Dutch hamburger) was excellent - fresh and tasty. We also had kibbling (cod) which was reheated and not so good. Go for the salted herring and resist the others and you won't be disappointed.... More

Went here based on recommendations here on ta and don't regret it one bit. The herring sandwich is a pleasant surprise. Was a bit skeptical at first as he herring is fresh (uncooked) but it was so good. Not fishy at all. A must try in Amsterdam.

On a past visit to Hoorn, Netherlands with a Dutch friend he introduced me to the traditional Herring sandwich (not sure the Dutch name). At a glance it grossed me out but was surprisingly tasty. It consists of raw herring, pickles, & onions on a roll. I was looking for the same to grab on my most recent trip to... More

Rob, owns the place for nearly 30 years, but he also is his only employee, in a Seafood Bar which is smaller than our own Kitchen. Just around the corner from SwissOtel at the Damrak we found this excellent Broodjeszaak. Because Dutch seafood like Haring (hering), Paling (smoked eel), Kibbeling (battered white fish) is eaten on or with bread. Perfect... More
