This centrally located enlarged "hole in the wall" is an absolute must stop for any fish lover in Amsterdam, especially if on a budget. The salmon and herring sandwiches were superb, and also very fairly priced. Owner is collegial and keeps a nice atmosphere inside. Will return.

Very nice and fresh. Rob told us he will be closed until the first of April 2014 due to a foundation renovation ordered by the city of Amsterdam. So now everybody has that information.

Tried the pungent herring sandwich. It was fresh and oily. Not my cup of tea but a good place to try it if you're here. Good atmosphere as well.

Honest humble sandwiches with the best herring we've ever tasted. Perfect with a pilsner in the cosy shop front. Rob was so cheerful it was like you were with family. A must visit for a light lunch (or you could have several sandwiches!).

You may think it's exaggerated, but the herring there really tasted like heaven!!!! I was not a fan of herring, but after dining there, it completely changed my view!! Herring was so fresh and delicious!! We kept reordering more and more!!!!!!!

It was not really one sandwich, they were two. And it was not just any "vis", it was smoked eel. And then there were charming Rob, and delicious breads to choose from. And even if eel is not as abundant in the sea as it used to be, it WAS in my eel sandwiches for only €4.50 each! You can... More

Lovely guy serving seafood in a tiny place with just a couple of tables. Had two sandwiches,. Herring with onions and gherkins then Mackerel with Mayo. Both delicious. I meant to go back for hot smoked eel and rollmops but did not make it. Would definitely go back here.

we tried three types, matjes, pickled, and fried herring(haring). The owner served us himself while filleting the days fish. we have been there twice so far and hope to go again. go earlier in the day because some types run out.

I loved it!! As others said, there are only 3 little tables, but you can have you food take away. I tried the fresh herring, a sandwich with fresh salmon and another person had little fried cod pieces, warmed up and served with Salad. All was fresh, delicious and economic. The owner is kind and helpful. Don't miss it! !!!
