We were recommended this restaurant by our family, a nice restaurant in a pleasant location near the Vondelpark… We had the worst service experience, our main courses arrived after 2 hours we sat at our table…. We were told that they had a problem in...the software handling the orders, okay but they should have done more to make up for this situation… I would never go there again…More

We were in Amsterdam to celebrate our wedding anniversary and reserved a table at 12.30 on the Saturday. On the day we were running late so I called the restaurant several times but no one picked up. I sent an email to request our reservation...be moved to 13.30 and got a quick reply to say it was possible. Great! When we arrived it seemed chaotic and there appeared to be too few staff for the number of customers although many of the staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than actually serving customers. We sat down and had to wait around 10-15 minutes before I decided to grab the attention of the staff. We ordered a bottle of water and asked for it to be brought immediately to the table as it was a very warm day - it took around 10 minutes. We ordered food and a bottle of champagne and I had to ask 4 times where the champagne was before it was finally brought out. This was the level of poor service we experienced throughout our visit. We were asked by different staff if we'd like to place an order when we'd already done so several minutes earlier so there was no internal communication. We noticed that every table around us also suffered from the same poor service and many customers were complaining and saying they'd never return. The food was excellent and served in a timely manner but getting the attention of the staff was the problem. They don't seem trained, experienced or caring. This is obviously a popular restaurant so perhaps they don't need to improve their level of service?More

We went for lunch here because it was near our hotel, and the food was so good that we booked for dinner the next night. It's basically French cuisine, but includes hamburgers and pastas. The dishes with black truffles - raviolis and an asparagus dish...were excellent. I had a terrific steak sandwich for lunch. All four of were happy with our choices both times. Decent wine list and not too expensive. Inside and outside seating (with heaters).More

This place has attitude big time. Everyone seems to know everyone and the servers only pay attention to the customers they know. We asked if the chicken in the caesar salad was white meat breast and was told it was. Instead it was undercooked, raw,..."white" wing pieces with gristle and skin.....the waitress said that is how chicken is cooked in the Netherlands and we should have said well done and then she turned on her heels and walked away. This was the worst of the 7 restaurants we ate at for dinner during our week in Amsterdam. Go someplace else!!!More

Amazed by the negative reviews on this site. We had a late lunch, 3pm, after a long journey from London to our hotel nearby. Terrace looked inviting but the wind was cool so we went inside. Basic homey decor, good service, and I risked the...truffle ravioli starter, as I didn't want much, but always expect truffle ravioli to be disappointing. This was one of the best I've ever had, with a wonderful basil buttery sauce. Friends had burger, steak sandwich, and carbonara, and we all liked it so much we decided to stop messing with central area restaurants (a very disappointing reistafel in the evening), and return to George for our second night. It was that good. Very highly recommended.More

We were first time George WPA visitors, having made a reservation for early-evening Saturday dinner. Despite the negative reviews here we were intrigued to find out for ourselves. Initial impressions were very favourable, the outside terrace was packed with happy looking groups enjoying the sunny...spot. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated and for a short time endured a cigar smoker on the table immediately next to us. To be fair he was apologetic and left soon afterwards. After that we had a truly great experience. The waiting staff were consistently prompt and friendly, multiple drinks were ordered and delivered speedily with a smile. The Spicy Margs were so-so (should be a lot spicier) but the house white Spanish wine was good. Our food orders were placed easily, arrived very much quicker than expected (under 10 minutes) and were truly delicious. Top marks for the Nicoise salad and a shared XL Profiterole especially. Quite honestly, the George WPA easily surpassed our expectations. Definitely worth the gamble.More

It is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The manager is rude and has 0 understanding about hospitality. She sat us (my son and I) at the terrace as per the reservation made. Little did we know that if you reserve at the...Terrace on a rainy day expect the shades to have holes and leaking. Dare asking to move you to another table you get insulted by the manager and indirectly asked to leave if you are not happy. To Sum it all a passing waitress drops an entire hot cup of coffee on my son’s back. Dare even mentioning to the manager. She actually lectured me that I need to be more sympathetic and understanding. After all we are all humans and we make mistakes (those were her exact words) The waitress is young and new. Do this manager even understand the concept of hospitality? Of corse not, because if she did she would train new/young inexperienced staff before asking them to serve on a busy Saturday. Not one single apology from the waitress who burned my son’s back nor from the manager. The only apology I received was from other guests sitting at a table next to us and saw how badly we were treated. And to be fare another staff member came after me when I was leaving the restaurant upset and angry. He was apologetic about his colleagues behavior. To summarize. I have written to the restaurant and of course I received an apology letter and a complimentary dinner and drinks. The point is my experience was a disaster before even trying the food (by the way, I wasn’t the only table/guests who complained about the sheds dripping water on us and on the table) to the extend the guests on our right hand side, left without ordering. I don’t recommend this restaurant even to my enemy! The staff are rude and the manger while talking to her turns her back on you. I should have checked the reviews before I booked and not depend on my Dutch friend recommendation. I can see now that I am not the only victime.More

We arrived tired and late (airport security was very slow) on Sun 26 March. Kitchen in George was just closing but the duty guy took pity on us and offered cold food; we fell on two lovely Caesar Salads with wine/beer. We returned on Mon...and Tue nights (earlier) and enjoyed lovely food & drinks in clean convivial surroundings. The staff (young) were most helpful & good humoured. The service was good and the food was unpretentious well cooked & served. We’d particularly complement Britt, the Duty Manager on Mon& Tue, who was most kind, charming & unflappable. We really enjoyed George. Ted & TeresaMore

We live near by, it was summer time, we always see how popular de terrace is. We went in for lunch, ordered club sandwiches and fries. To my surprise they were cold, even the fried egg!!, i point this out to the waiter, she apologises...and the manager comes over with an attitude and explains they make the sandwiches in the morning... Ridiculous!! For the price it's absolutely unacceptable. The waiter was very nice, but the manager a thug.More

Booked this restaurant on spec as most other restaurants were fully booked. Then read some bad reviews on Tripadvisor. However it was very nice. Buzzy and reasonable service. Had to ask twice about main course. Steak good not great. Lobster 1/2. Very small. But enjoyed...the evening. Not sure if I’d go back as a lot of choice on Amsterdam.More

This is said to be the place to see and be seen. At Sunday brunch, that seemed to be the situation, with younger couple decked out in fashion wear and their leashed dogs at their tables (yes, even indoors). It is an attractive place, and...the menu has nice offerings. The bloody marys are extraordinary. Beyond that, service was horrible, food so so (lobster undercooked and server disputed it, but finally took it back and 15 minutes later it arrived cooked). They had VERY young servers - some seemed to be 12-13 years of age, who by their own admission could not perform various tasks but strangely enough could bring you booze. It seemed to be a family operation, at least many of the "kids" looked alike, but none of them (family or not) had ANY personality, all seemed like zombies. Was damned glad to get out of there.More
