Very nice pub

For a pub very good. The food is ok, but of course has no restaurant quality. Good service and location. Nice ambiente.

Called in here on a Sunday evening and was greeted by extremely friendly staff. I had a burger which is one of the best I've ever had. I then helped the kids finish their ribs which were divine. The staff throughout were brilliant. The one down side - I've put about 4lbs on. :)

We had a really good hamburger (the bread was nice to!) and club sandwich. The two girls serving us were friendly. It was nice to sitt by the canal.

Visited last weekend. We ordered a bottle of wine, salmon with salad and burger and fries. Beautifully cooked food, sitting overlooking the canal whiling away the evening. Good thing about the location is at has a bit of bustle but the road is quiet. Cost is reasonable and would have eaten there again if I was staying longer. Staff were... More

Despite other good critics for this bar we were very dissatisfied about the food, the staff and the ambience. We had a table at the waterfront which had a nice view on the Gracht. But the table itself was so dirty that we didn't dare to put our hands on it. Against our hope the waitress didn't clean it. When... More

I have visited this bar before and we were there a couple of times last weekend. It is relaxed and cosy and there is no hassle to leave. The music is not invasive and the staff friendly. We were pleased with the food, the burgers are tasty and fries delicious. The salad last weekend was varied and well balanced with... More

Came across this place when looking place when looking for somewhere to lunch in The Jordaan. On a cool day this was a warm and welcoming find. The walls are decorated with some interesting anatomical prints, but not likely to put you off eating the hearty food on offer.

We were walking and we thought lets pop in. Waitress was very friendly and as we walked in there was this lady seating down with 2 little dogs they were cute. We sat towards the back of this lovely coffee shop, I had a Cappuccino and a nice piece of cake. Nice to relax from time to time. That is... More

My favorite burger in Amsterdam! Perfect spot for a beer in the sun. Check out their live music every last Sunday of the month. Good times, very friendly staff!

I stumbled upon De Vergulde Gaper while wandering the Jordaan area looking for a nice place to spend a relaxing evening. I hit the jackpot. The corner restaurant has a very cozy, but not overcrowded atmosphere. Interesting apothecary decorations still line the muted walls. Friendly English-speaking staff tend the seats and the bar. The quirky architecture lends to the experience.... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
