What a lovely cafe with a great selection of beers. Carpets on the tables and old furnishings add to the quaint atmosphere. It's the perfect cozy corner to escape the hustle and bustle.

A friend of mine from Amsterdam suggested we go here late one evening, and I'm SO glad we did. What a wonderful and cozy pub. The selection of beers here is truly impressive. We tried a few different ones and probably would have tried a few more, but the place was closing for the evening. The owner was extremely friendly... More

I don’t recall the number of times I have visited Het Elfde Gebod. It never ceases to amaze me how friendly Amsterdamers are to us annoying tourists, clagging up their beautiful city, and the owner and her staff at this stylish little bar are no exception. I hesitate to say go there; I quite like it to myself with a... More

I only stumbled across this place by accident but I'm glad that I did. It's located within easy walking distance of Amsterdam's central station, hidden in one of the small alleys leading towards the red-light district and the small China-town. It's name translates as "The eleventh commandment" and it is a tiny bar offering a plethora of Belgian beer. They... More

This is where you need to go when you're in Amsterdam. Why? Because it's a JEWEL. Most places that you stop off at in the 'Dam will be pouring pitchers of Heineken, and maybe one or two others. But this place has such an amazing selection of beers, you'll want to try at least one of everything (which I don't... More

Nice small friendly bar close to Centraal Station. We came across this bar when we first visited Amsterdam in 1999. Although the then owners have now retired the new owner hasn't altered it at all which is very nice. Has a nice range of beers on tap and a fair selection in bottles too. Quieter than a lot of the... Great little bar with a nice variety of quality beers on tap. Very friendly service on the two occasions we visited with different staff on each visit. Surrounded by other good bars, so you are spoilt for choice, but don't pass it by.

This is a really cosy bar selling many Belgian beers. The tables are covered in cloths that look more like carpets and there are religious artefacts everywhere (it was slightly strange to be drinking beer under the beady eye of the Virgin Mary!). The lady behind the bar was very friendly but did seem to be outside having a cigarette... More

Nice little bar close the central train station. Variety of beers. Lots of character. Bar tender was very friendly. They don't take credit cards, so bring cash.

I stumbled across this extremely nice little pub about 20 years ago, because of its small street pavement terrace, which the municipality forbade, but has now been made possible again. The owners of then have now retired, but much to my surprise the new owner is as charming and welcoming as the previous ones. You can always tell a pub... More
