A vegetarian and vegan delight

Situated in a trendy part of Amsterdam close to the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum's, this vegetarian and vegan restaurant greets you with a portrait of a cat. The dishes are different, wholesome and moderately priced. We shared the olive paste and bread to start (€3.5) followed by the hearty potato... read more

De Waaghals had been on my list of vegetarian restaurants to try for quite some time. Last week I finally made a booking. Unfortunately I wasn't overly impressed. I found the dishes quite expensive and not all that interesting. Service was okay, but again nothing to write home about. The decor is unassuming and frankly a bit boring. All in... More

This place was well worth the 15 minute walk from the very centre. Outstandingly tasty food. You wonder why people eat meat! The tastes were great. The service was cery freindly indeed and we enjoyed chatting to the owner/manager.

No idea how we've missed this restaurant over the years. Anyhow having finally found it we'll visit again. This is a very friendly restaurant with mainly local diners. The menu is reassuringly short but with a good combination of flavours and textures so should be something for everyone.

Cosy and modest place on a quiet street on the edge of the De Pijp area, serving a wonderful selection of vegetarian and vegan food. Lovely quiet, informal atmosphere and friendly, helpful but non-intrusive staff. Good range of styles of cooking, and food absolutely delicious, and plenty of it!

This was a serendipitious stop on our way to Rembrant's house. It is an ideal location to people watch, on a plaza surrounded by 17th century buildings and good Europeon food. Service was great , food excellant and at a very resonable price.

This entirely vegetarian restaurant had some great looking options on the menu, which sadly I couldn't try. The vegan options were very limited; there were only two vegan main dishes. The overall quality of the food was nothing special; some dishes a little bit like dutch fast food even. The carrot pudding for dessert was very disappointing.

Vegetarians will definitely love this place. The food was really tasty and the vegetables were the real stars of the meal. Great choice of beer and interesting desserts as well. Hope to return one day.

Staying in De Pijp

Neighborhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
