Established in 1978, it is a small restaurant located at Gerard Doustraat 39, 1072 VK Amsterdam, Netherlands... menu's are in a variety of languages.. We had dinner at Spang Makandra, and overall the experience was quite good. They don't take reservations, so depending on when you visit, expect to wait anywhere between 30 mins - 1 hour for a table (so don't come here starving). Also, they don't serve alcohol so just keep that in mind. Between the two of us, we shared the... More

The food was very delicious. We came in hungry, so that was not helpful cos we ordered a lot of food, turned out they were a lot for the price.

I stayed for a week in an apartment near this restaurant and watched long lineups of people wait for dinner every night. I picked up takeout after a very long day of sightseeing. I couldn't believe how much delicious food I took home for ten euros. I was starving but still couldn't eat it all. Highly recommended.

This place has been on my radar since I travel to Amsterdam almost once per year. I'm incredibly happy that I tried it. Since I had my son in a stroller, I knew take-out was the only option so I went with the special. I ate nearly the entire thing because it was that delicious--the portion was huge! Anyhow, I... Went last week with friends, great food at even better prices. Really tasty and staff were helpful. This isn't a fancy place but if you are in the area, worth stopping in for your dinner.

Close to Albert Cuyp Market in De Pijp we found this tiny surinamese/indonesian restaurant with spicy and tasty food. We started with saoto ayam, a very delicious chicken soup, followed by the satay chicken and some lamb curry. Both were ecellent. The staff was very friendly, and the prices not high. Note! The restaurant is halal, which means no beer... More

Don't miss this tiny restaurant in Amsterdam's de Pijp. For spicy, authentic Surinamese food this is the place to go (or to pick up some take out). The place is usually packed full with people, regardless of the time/day/season so you kind of have to be lucky to get a table. One tip: reserve in advance! Prices are very friendly.

Staying in De Pijp

Neighborhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
