Within strolling distance from Theatre Carré there is the stage of Hans Verbeek and Igor Sens, the two culinary artists from restaurant Utrechtsedwarstafel. Their performance is a ballet of wine and food. Indulge yourself with the culinary compositions by Igor the Chef and the wines of Sommelier Hans. An adventurous evening awaits. The commercial concept of Utrechtsedwarstafel is straightforward and easily explained. Igor purchases the freshest produce of the season and subsequently composes fine delicate dishes for a multiple course menu. Just mention the number of courses you wish to eat.For every menu Hans creates the perfect wine arrangement. Every course is accompanied by the right match of wine. However, the arrangements vary with respect to the complexity and quality. The bare essence of Utrechtsedwarstafel is that every course is a fertile marriage of wine and food. Its fruits bear your palate a sheer joy.

I was worried at first to subscribe to an evening of "surprise cuisine" curated by a Dutch restaurant -- a country not exactly known for its culinary excellence (with all due respect). But this restaurant is no croquette emporium, instead it deftly wrangled foods I don't love and wouldn't inherently order (cooked salmon, pigeon) into dishes I absolutely loved. Add... More

We loved that you didn't know what you were getting with every course, the wine pairing was spot on and the rillette amuse Bouche was one of the best we've ever had. The courses themselves were fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We never saw a menu, but had a 3 course dinner with wines. Everything was top class. We had lobster, pigeon and a strawberry-rhubarb dessert. The female waiter did a really good job. Very pleasant person. Nice surroundings as well. All in all it was well worth the money. 138 euros if you have good wines, a bit more if... More

What a lovely hidden gem of a restaurant only through GPS and Trip Advisor. We never saw a menu or wine list - which was fine. Could never have picked any better and so enjoyed the surprised they just arrived at our table. Each course was more extraordinary than the last and the wine pairings were even more superb. Hans... This is a charming and very original restaurant. I found it both relaxing and interesting to be given no choices for either the food or wine, and everything was wonderful. The service is great, with excellent input on the wines and on the provenance of the food. We enjoyed meeting the chef. I had emailed ahead to mention that one... More

Fine wines, 6 different bottles proposed, each one for a different course. The menu does not exist, you should be ready to eat just what they have prepared with only fresh and high quality ingredients. And the location/environment is just a gem. A bit expensive but worth it a try! And 4 hours there in good company will just fly...Love... More

This restaurant was incredible. Hans is a great host. His team work tirelessly to please. They take great pride in delivering a wonderful experience. The hospitality, setting and ambiance was incredible. We loved the idea of not knowing what we were eating. The food is to a very very high standard. Well presented and delicious. We liked the chef coming... More

The concept is simple: choose the number of courses (3 to 5) and choose your wine level (normal or premium). Nothing more to do, except enjoying the fine cuisine from the chef and the atypical wine selection served from one of the owners of the place. One of the many positive points of the restaurant is the service: friendly, efficient... More
