South African feeling in Amsterdam

Great food and service. The springbok was one of the most tender meat dishes I have ever tried. Definitely worth visiting!

Went there recently in a group of 3, and immediately fell in love with the place! Great exotic food at a reasonable price, and a wonderful staff. Will definitely return next time I'm in Amsterdam!

This cafe just off the main road, it looks quirky from the outside and is on the inside. The service was excellent the man that served us was lovely and so polite. The crab cake starter was packed with fish and had a spicy sauce and the biltong soup was excellent. I had the mixed grill which was excellent meat... More

I went to Tjing Tjing last night with a friend. When asked what we would like to eat, we asked to be surprised. We ordered some Cherrychoc wine from Weltevrede and sat at the bar chatting away. The first course arrived: biltong soup. This is a soup made with dried meat and smoked cheese accompanied with a home-made bun. This... More

Small restaurant in the old neighborhood "De Pijp". Difficult parking, but easily reachable by public transportation. Several exotic meat options (crocodile, ostrich, springbok, kundu), but we went for their Cape Malay dishes. The food was wonderful, the service prompt and friendly, and the wines from Stellenbosch were excellent. The chef/owner was enthusiastic. Clearly one of our favorites in Amsterdam.

We went to Tjing Tjing for a meal on the 26th and was surprised by a meal that was worth 5+ stars! As we were in no hurry and having some lovely South African wine, we had all the time to taste the dishes that was presented. It started with some delicious beef samosas. Crispy and freshly made. The next... More

We visited Tjing Tjing to try their "Braai" (BBQ) menu with some friends new to South African food. Since it was a group type dinner it was served as a buffet meal. For starters we were offered a plate of samosas, some vegetarian and some beef, served with some chutney. As a samosa lover I found both varieties very tasty,... More

I went to Tjing Tjing because they had great reviews, and also I wanted to try something different than usual oriental/indian/italian cuisine, however I was very disappointed after this visit. Staying in De Pijp

Neighborhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
