Perfect brunch

A wonderful small restaurant with attentive friendly staff, beautiful decor and delicious food. Vegetarian options and an extensive tea menu. The croissant with homemade jams is incredible.

Gartine is a place that is hard to find (between Rokin and Kalverstraat near Spui) at Takseeg 7 and is usually full so booking is advisable. The meals are just delicious and not much more than you would pay in any cafe in Amsterdam. Good coffee and great service make this the ideal lunch place. We went past, made a... More

We've heard good things about this place but didn't expect it would be this good. The breakfast menu is simple but the food was delicious. The scrambled eggs served on the bread was delicious. I am coming back this August just to have it again! Highly recommended and make sure you reserve the table on the balcony in the restaurant

This was one of the best meals I have ever had. Period. We had read that they get quite busy and that seating is fairly limited, so we arrived shortly after they opened and were able to get a table for three upstairs overlooking the restaurant. Everything was fresh, and by "fresh" I mean "grown in the owner's garden." The... More

I cannot say enough good things about our time(s) at Gartine. This is a must eat. That is right, A MUST EAT. I found it as a suggestion on TripAd and my wife and I stopped in for lunch. We rolled the dice and got very lucky with a table. We kicked things off with a cup each of their... More

I had the Eggs Benedict with ham along with coffee and my son had the pancake with raspberry plus orange juice. The plates were so beautifully done, we couldn't believe it would cost only a few euros. And when we got to taste it, we were more surprised that it was one of the best we ate of the kind!... More

This gem is worth a visit - but book ahead! We got lucky and turned up (by accident) before they had opened, so we got one of two tables that they happened to have free - but we saw them turn away quite a few people while we were there. The food was amazing, and they catered for my dietary... More

Visited with my parents... Read some good reviews about Gartine and thought giving it a try, for lunch. We had the sourdough sandwiches, one with egg salad and the other with ham of lamb, and a soup of the day, all to share coz we weren't too hungry. Sourdough bread tasted fresh and very tasty!! And it makes a huge... More

We had a wonderful high tea at this charming and elegant café. As recommended, we booked a table and, when we arrived, we were delighted by the quirky decor and the sweetly mis-matched chintzy china. We had an enormous pot of tea, refilled upon request, accompanied by delicious savoury and sweet treats. Everything is home made, often using produce from... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
