Lovely atmosphere with good, solid food at Café Sjiek: After our drinks were served, we received a brown paper bag with dark bread, while at the table extra virgin oil was served to dip our bread. We shared an anti pasta, and as main course two of us had (succulent) lamb, while the other person had a sjasliek. French fries... More

A traditional style pub, dark and atmospheric but with modern outside seating and great food. Reasonable choice on the menu and all quite unusal including "Zoervleis" which is made from horse meat and is very traditional. The food was excellent quality as was the beer (lots of choices), the place was full and turning people away, they don't except reservations.... More

Cafe Sjiek in this beautiful historic Pieters street is typical for Maastricht and is frequented by locals. It is both a small informal restaurant with french oriented food and a cafe for drinks. This mix makes it very cosy. Reservations are not accepted, so people come by and have a drink at the bar before being seated. Tables are often... More

We tried the special horse meat, zoerwilez. It was sour to me. We ordered also shrimp, which was ok too. As a result, we had an ok food at a nice open area.

Myself and wife went there on a Saturday evening outside seating area very crowded with mainly locals and lots of smoke so waited inside with a drink and managed to get seated sharing a table with another charming local couple, ordered 2 more drinks and whilst sitting there the barman came over and asked abruptly if you are not eating... The terrace in the park was too crowded and there were too many smokers. A lot of local people though.

Called 'cafe' but it's more of a restaurant on a corner site not that far from the river in the old town of Maastricht. Cafe Sjiek looks more like a traditional bar and dining is informal. Plenty of locals seemed to be eating here, a good sign. In good weather there are also open-air tables across the street under some... More

What a jewel of a find, Meeting up with two Australian friends we wanted to find a typical local restaurant for a meet up on a Saturday early evening. This was very local with a menus to match. The waiter soon found us a table and when asked about the special board even offered to give us a taste. Delicious... More

Nice place with outdoor seats. There is lots of staff and they are friendly but are too too slow, have to be very patient, even when you want to pay you’ll have to remind them few times and maybe is a good idea before you seat to ask what kind of credit cards are acceptable, the service when I was... Seems like a place where locals go. Great atmosphere and service. Small and a bit of a wait to get a table. Most grab a drink and don't mind waiting and mingling. Food is well prepared although I wouldn't say it was extraordinary for European standards. Our table was right next to the kitchen so I was looking into the... More
