Middle of the road

Had dinner with friends and heard positive things about the restaurant. The atmosphere was reasonable but the rest was really middle of the road. As a resident of Nijmegen we have eaten at the Savarijn dozens of times. With family, friends or business, Savarijn delivers always. I would describe the atmosphere as chique, but also warm and friendly. The winelist is a real treat for winelovers like myself and recieved the Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator "for having one of the most... More

We visited the place yesterday for dinner. It was a belated birthday present. Thanks sister. The place is nicely located and the menu is good. The wine list is extensive, but only a very limited number of wines are served per glass. The food was good, not special but overall OK. The service was unfortunately not the way I expected.... this was one of the most enjoyable meals I have ever had! The service was excellent, atmosphere relaxed, seating comfortable, and food superb. With six of us, all food was delivered simultaneously. Four had the 3 course menu. Excellent! Two had a la carte steaks. Four had the wine where the restaurant chose the suitable wine. Excellent. Also exactly what... More

Appetizer and soup were excellent, wine recommendations unusual and excellent. Very accommodating to our party of 5 that swelled to 6 partway through.

"Tell me what you eat: i'll tell you who you are." Well, we were a happy group of 6 colleagues from work that had a great evening in "Het Savarijn" to wave one member of the group goodbye. Het Savarijn took it's name from the famous French cook Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (around 1800) who coined this aphorism. As the name "Savarin"... More

This is really a gem. The food is fresh, with outstanding combinations and flavours, there is good variety and there are menus to choose from, or a la carte. Where this restautant really excells though, is in the wine department. Don't even bother to be a wine conaisseur or give the impression as such to your dining companions: the Sommelier... More

We were looked after very well at this small restaurant. The food was excellent, and I can certainly recommend the fillet steak with stilton cheese. Good wine list. I shall certainly return on my next visit to Nijmegen.

Overall excellent experience, went with a group of 7 friends on a Saturday evening; and with a friendly welcome, some good bread, butter and olives had a good start. Surprise menu was really nice but also the 'regular' menu was cooked beautifully. Price to quality is great. Quality wine list as well. Highly recommended.

This is a tiny restaurant in the center of Nijmegen, situated in an old corner building, with the entrance right on the corner of the building. I'm saying this because sadly, I almost walked past it. The interior is rejuvenated classy sixties I guess. Comfortable and not too tightly packed, but actually really small. Staff is friendly. We went with... More
