I pride myself in being able to find good beer in any country regardless of language. De Hamel is the real deal! They had 10 of their own beers on tap (7 regulars and 3 seasonals). I really enjoyed the Mariken, which is named for the famous Nijmegen protagonist that spent 7 years with the devil before being miraculously released.... More

The building is fantastic. "De commanderie van St. Jan" is a medieval building in the Center of Nijmegen. There are different restaurants to choose in this building.(De Hemel, Plaats 1) and some other food related businesses. We had lunch in De Hemel (the heaven). I chose the "goat's cheese salad". It was okay. Nice cheese, some bacon and lettuce, with... More

Generally they have good food and delicious fresh mint tea! The 8 course dinner is very tasty! The waiters are very nice and the ambiance is great.

I had dinner here and took the 8 course meal. I started with the bread and tapenade which was good. Second round was the soup which was delicious. The next 5 dishes were fish and meat. With the fish, I could taste that it was fish from the freezer and not fresh, the meat was not cooked well. The waiters... More

I went here for a lunch. The terrace outside is really beautiful. Some of the waiters smile. This is the only good part of this place. We only ordered 2 drinks, a small lunch and one second drink. We were with 2 people. Inside it was fully packed, the terrace was not even filled for one quarter. There were many... More

I would recommend De Hamel for - tasting the bears: you can have a 6 or 8 glasses tasting, the bear is the best in Nijmegen, - the ambience is cozy and there is a nice view on the river, you can enjoy this at most at lunch. For dinner, you can have a menu for 28€: the food is... More

It's a Brazilian style food served (lots of meat on big skewers) with nice beers, wines and very pleasant service. we had the 8 course meal, which involves them coming to the table periodically with a different big skewer of meat, or fish. Each course is only one chunk of meat, for example a piece of spiced pork each, And... More

Situated in an old building, De Hemel ("The Heaven") has a nice atmosphere. In the cellars there is a micro brewery and the produce can obviously be sampled in the barroom which doubles as restaurant in the evening. The food is straightforward and tasty.
