Historic Dining

Had a pleasant dinner here in the second floor dining room overlooking the River. Lovely ambiance. The menu was a bit limited but what was offered was very good. Lovely service and large portions of food. Nothing very creative here but good basic Swiss fare in a nice setting.

I had a late lunch here in their inside dining room with a business associate. It was a small restaurant with friendly and helpful wait staff. Their menu items were also indicated in English. The prices were reasonable. I ordered the pork schnitzel that was good, however I thought a bit thick. It was the regular old schnitzel. I was... More

Pregnant with history, this restaurant in central Zurich just off the Limmat River offers good food, attentive service and pleasant ambience. Our small party of four visited this restaurant for the first time and we were quite impressed. An amuse-bouche of carrot-ginger soup preceded our orders. The Nüsslisalat, our perennial favorite when in Switzerland, was excellent and so was the... More

The restaurant was great from the reservation service to the bill! We paid around 350 CHF. Personally for a meal for 6 people in Swiss its not too overpriced, and we ordered quite a bit (2 lambs, 1 veal, 3 salad, 2 soups, couple of beers and at least 5 waters), but thats just my opinion. The veal was by... More

After having graduated 29 years ago from University of Zurich, three of my classmates and I met there mid November. We sat outside, the weather still being sunny enough. The Bratwurst came very fast, was served the right way (3 without, one with Zwiebelsauce), the beers were served fast as well and the breadbasket was steadily re-stocked. No complaints at... More

Having a short coffee break, we've ordered latte and hot chocolate. Latte was not very impressive but it was nothing in comparison to the hot chocolate served as a pot of foamed hot milk with an instant hot chocolate sachet next to it, which you are supposed to stir in and drink. I'd never expect something like that in a... More

The Dinner was from out Team (work) and the chef paid, so it was perfect for me. In relation to Züris prices, the food is not way more expensive than usual (80 Franks including entre main desert). Its a really beautiful room upstairs, which is probably original (restored) from the traditional Zunfthaus and has a perfect view over the Limmat... More

When we got to Zurich, first thing we wanted was to have a proper local beverage and we definitely got it there that day. We chose that place based on the fact that it is sitting right on the street and only feet away from the Limmat River. It is a great spot to people watch as well as to... More

The Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten, Carpenters' Guildhall, occupies the historical Red Eagle House on the bank of the river Limmat in Zurich. The building was burned down in 2007 and the restoration took several years finally reopening the restaurant in 2010. Traditional Swiss German food, plain and simple, yet tasty, like Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, thin strips of veal stewed with cream and... More

This is a very traditional restaurant, a famous guild house. The restaurant burnt down (I think in 2009), and has been totally rebuilt in the same old style. Service is very attentive, beyond standard. the view obviously onto the river Limmat and the old town of Zurich is just marvellous. The food was excellent, and on the pricy side, but... More
