Good food

we chose this restaurant because we wanted to try something a bit more special. We had the raclette which was really good, although it's a small portion. The mains are mainly meat and fondue, but the pork schnitzel we had was tasty and filling. All in all it was a good experience, although the... read more

Crowded with tourists, food was ok but not terribly remarkable (do yourself a favor and skip the strudel, it was actually awful...the fondue with mushrooms was pretty good, schnitzel was ok). Service was abrupt (and the server is the only one in all of Switzerland - we've been here six days - who stood over us as we signed the... More

We have been coming to the Whymper-Stube for years. It is the best Fondue Chinoise (meat fondue with french fries, sauces, fruit etc...) you will ever have. Hands down. No doubt ... and a great historical and cozy location.

Dinner at the Whymper-Stube was memorable because of the well-rounded menu, suburb, friendly service by Danielle, traditional atmosphere, and live music. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to travelers and locals looking for a well-situated, comfortable, and yummy place to eat.

We had lovely tomato, mushroom and pear fondues. The mushroom fondue was the best and all were worth having. The service is friendly. English is spoken well. The guidance given for the food choices and wines was appreciated. We also had the raclette and salads. Open for late lunches or early dinner - one of the few places in Zermatt... More

This is a wonderful little traditional Swiss restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful with local questions we needed answered. The food was nice but I can't say it was anything special.

Pros: - very authentic swiss restaurant with a friendly staff. They also can speak english. - they have english menu - the decoration is nice. It feels like traveling back to old swiss restaurant. Cons: - no picture on the menu - price is a bit expensive for fondue around 28 swiss franc. It only include bread, fondue and three... More

We had a great cheese fondue and salads with a nice dry Swiss Fendant wine. The old stone cellar space had couples, families and groups all enjoying themselves with a very unhurried but professional service.

We just spent a week in Zermatt and twice visited Whymper Stube. Super meals with excellent service. Would fully recommend the cheese fondu with pears.

There are 2 places I can recommend in Zermat for traditional cheese food, this is one of them, always full, but excellent food! Given the high turnover don't expect the best service in the world, but the staff is friendly and does its best to manage the mass of people.
