If you can get beyond the standard high Swiss prices, you'll really enjoy your meal. The menu has some interesting items (I had a fantastic curry cream soup as a starter and my husband enjoyed a lamb stroganoff as a main course). Everything was incredibly tasty and the staff was lovely. Make a reservation if you can. We didn't but... More

We had this restaurant recommended to us by a local so it was no surprise when we went there and had a wonderful experience. It has a lovely homely atmosphere and we both loved our dinner there, washed down with a gorgeous local wine. Thank you!

We had an awesome meal with family on 2 October 2013. We were given a complimentary soup n a shot glass which was a beautiful bean, curry and bacon and sour cream. Amazing!!! The rosti was fantastic and very filling - perfect comfort food. After our meal they gave us a complimentary limoncello and plum schnapps....mmmmmm. Very courteous staff and... More

We expected a lot, as this was rated high on Trip Adviser, but it just wasn't that terrific. Our salads were very good, and our entres were rosti which were more than either of us could eat. It was ok and the owner is lovely but the service was really slow and I was expecting more.

we came across this place after left our intended restaurant for abandoning us in their terrace. But it turned out to be a good decision. Avena's terrace is very cozy and the waiter was very nice and friendly . We got some osso busco and cordon blue and complimentary mushroom soup. Will recommended it

Very good food, every day a new appetizer offered by the chef. The service is excellent. Price are high, like everywhere in Zermatt but here when you leave, you are happy for the quality and originality of the food. Wonderful terrace.

We enjoyed everything we at at the Avena and the service was really good and friendly. The price was more reasonable than some others and the quality was great. Definitely worth a visit.

This restaurant was not on our radar prior to arrival in Zermatt however we happened to walk by it one night during our stay and peeked in. The ambiance was inviting and the restaurant was full - always a good sign:) We went twice for dinner during our week stay which says a lot because there are quite a few... More

Everyone knows where Papperla Pub in Zermatt is. Across the street from Papperla is restaurant Avena, few people knows about. The owners apparently are not promoting the place enough, and I think it is pity, because the restaurant is really good and moderately – as for Zermatt – priced. For instance the web page is in German only and does... More

I would definitely recommend Avena to Zermatt visitors. It's certainly not cheap (at 40-50 Swiss francs for the main dish), but it has amazing food and is less expensive than a lot of other less impressive restaurants in Zermatt. We were in Zermatt in March 2012 and after our first dinner, we went back to Avena for two nights in... More
