Our favorite restaurant in Zermatt for many years already!

This traditional chalet restaurant was the best we found in Zermatt. We ate at plenty of high end restaurants but in terms of traditional Swiss food, this place should not be missed. Try the lamb here as it is their specialty. The rack of lamb comes 2 ways and both were delicious. The service here was so nice, it was... More

We dined here on Valentine's Day. The room is decorated in traditional Swiss style. The fondue was served with a large variety of sauces and was excellent. The waitress was very nice and the service was great. We were given the liquid in the fondue mixed with sherry after we were done as a kind of soup. It was delicious.... More

This restaurant has over 100 years history. The internal decoration was of traditional chalet style. The raclete and cheese fondue was very good. We also had the lamb meat fondue and trio of lamb. The breed of lamb, black nose sheep, was special to the locality. It was the most tender and delicious lamb I ever had. We also had... More

Traditional Swiss food deliciously prepared and well tasting. Good service. Menu not very children-friendly however staff helpful to find solutions. Recommended primarily for grown-up people.

Great food! The raclette is superb. The lamb ragout great. The family with the screaming child I could have done without.

We really enjoyed the traditional Alpine decor. Don't miss the grilled lamb. Absolutely the best lamb we have eaten, as well as the most generous portions we have experienced anywhere in Europe. The deserts are really special and are the perfect end to an excellent meal. The service was friendly and caring. If we had more time we would go... More

Family of 5 enjoyed a wonderful fondue dinner and a mouth watering Chateaubriand. Be hungry when you arrive because they serve generous portions. The Chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection could have easily satisfied 4 adults.

We have dined at Schäferstube many times before, and usually enjoyed the occasion, but this time the experience was disappointing. The rack of lamb (the house specialty) was fatty and the first round (they serve two rounds) was lukewarm. Service was slow, notwithstanding that they have plenty of experience (they operate two sittings at 1830 and 2100, and we were... More

In the basement of the Hotel Julen, this feels like an authentic restaurant. The decor is very alpine and covered with sheep. My wife had the meat fondue and loved it, while I had the lamb. I was in Zermatt for only four days but had lamb on two occasions (and wish I had made it four!). Loved the place,... More
