The sizzling “holzfeuer” is the centrepiece of Le Gitan, creating an immediate warm and welcoming atmosphere at the forefront of the restaurant. You can wet your appetite by watching all the action from your table; our chef prepares all our grills over the wood fire. Specialities include lamb, prawns, beef and spit-roasted chicken tarragon.

Great restaurant, but also the "Zermatterstübli is excellent !

Le Gitan, is located in the Darioli hotel, super place to eat, especially if you are a big eater...we have had dinner here many times in the past, never a problem. However I wanted to rate Le "Zermatterstübli, also located in the same hotel but not found on Tripadvisor. This place has a cheese... read more

We only ate here once, but we thought that it offered perhaps the best food in Zermatt. Indeed, when we asked directions from a local, he so recommended it. The open grill is attractive; the service agreeable; and for its quality it is not expensive.

Unless the restaurant promotes its own reviews, there is no way that over enthusiastic reviews for this place. We had grilled chicken with estragon sauce that it did not worth the one hour waiting time. The service was good but the pseudo rustic decor was uninspiring. Choose something else by chance. You might have a better lack.

Tasty food, but rather small portions. However , lots of free potato gratin as a side dish. This portion of rack of lamb cost somewhat 45 franks. Seriously?

Enjoyed sea bass entrée with the probably the best potato casserole we've ever eaten. Busy and popular place - make your reservations early. A memorable evening.

We come to this restaurant most e dry time we are in town. They have a reliably excellent grill, particularly beef and lamb. The place can be a little warm, as they cook over and open fire in the middle, but we love the grill dishes and various sides. Respectable wine list.

In the main shopping street Le Gitan is conveniently situated and easily reached from almost anywhere. The restaurant has a nice cosy atmosphere with an open grill on which the food is prepared. We can recommend the beef skewer(kebab). Steak was delicious too. They have a nice selection of wines to accompany. Excellent friendly service too

We went with our 11 year old daughter. The restaurant is very cozy and can be a little tight space wise but the food was so good that it didn't matter. We started with the gambas and escargot, both excellent. For mains we had the filet mignon, lamb fillets and veal and all very excellent. The sides of potato gratin... More

We just wanted to try this cozy grill....and we remained impressed from the atmosphere, the very well presented dishes and the kindness of the staff. Worth a visit.

We based our trip off of other reviews which was a mistake. I ordered the prawns, and what I received were bland, bite size shrimp fit for a salad, not a main course. Both mine and my husband's entree were supposed to come with a side of potatoes, we received none. The waiter rushed over with a mostly empty pan... More
