We were wanting a grill type restaurant with a Swiss flair and we were led to the right place. The restaurant is in the basement, at river level, of a little hotel off the main streets in Zermatt. As soon as we entered, we knew we were in the right place. Boy did it smell good! We had a charming... More

We searched a few restaurants for chocolate fondue and finally come across this place. It was relatively cheap for 24franks but really wasn't too impressive, the fruit platter was very average, no strawberries or bananas and pretty small. There's definately better in zermatt

We first found Chez Max Julen restaurant in 2005; after enjoying our first meal we fell in love with the place. We returned in 2010 and again this summer, 2014. It has remained consistently good… Situated next to the bridge on the bottom floor of Hotel Beau Rivage, this place is fantastic; the open fire provides you with a romantic... More

Their vegetable plate was almost too beautiful to eat, but was as delicious as it was lovely! The mushroom cream sauce was absolutely heavenly! 30 Suisse Francs for a colorful culinary memory.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The interior of the restaurant is so cozy and welcoming. We ordered escargot cooked in light cream, grilled meat: lamb, veal, deer, beef, and pear ice cream and apple struddle. All are outstanding. The waiter and chef are very accommodating since each one of us wanna try each kind of meat, so we asked... More

Tucked away, off the main paths, a great place to escape the cold rain and settle into a cozy fireside dinner. Warm wood paneling , welcoming staff and vibrant conversation filling the space. White tablecloths, candles and a busy grill turning out well prepared, locally sourced, quality meats dishes. From the starters, to the Valois wines, the steak au poivre,... More

Very good restaurant in a traditional decoration, with good and copious food, very good service, rustic cooked on a grill cook, swiss price (you pay for what you get). We had a very nice Chateaubriand :-)

This was an absolutely delicious meal of beautifully cooked meat. You get two servings, which was a wonderful surprise as the first serving was large enough! It was a lovely, cosy restaurant, and the service was great.

The food was great - but smaller portions on big white plates. The grill items were exceptional. Staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The atmosphere was ok - not as cozy as I like but still a great overall experience.

The olympic glory of Sarajevo 1984 may be wearing off, but Max Julen continues to lend his name to a top grill in Zermatt. The meat is like butter, the vegetables delicious, and the starters topnotch. No complaints about the desserts either, other than that they are oversized. Friendly service that stays relaxed in spite of the hectic action around... More
