One of those typical St.Gallen first floor Beizli. But food and service are far beyond typical. We were with a group of 12 and all dishes (speaking for the others as well) were well balanced, tasty and very nice plated. Service is outstanding, in attentian as well in advising the appropriate wine. Their reputation was not that well, but with... More

"Wirtschaft zur Alten Post" is a small, typical "first-floor" restaurant (or in Swiss German: Erst-Stock-Beizli) on two floors, located next to the Baroque cathedral (with the Abbey Library). We go there on a regular basis, i.e. bi-weekly lunches with friends or clients and delectable dinners in the evenings. What we like the most is the outstanding food, service, the decent... More

This restaurant is advertised as one of the oldest and most venerable restaurants in St. Gallen. Although it foes have an outside seating area in the summer, it is inside that does its part by providing a cozy and traditional atmosphere. The sea bass with risotto was very flavorful but a bit salty and the veal and wild boar ravioli... More

The combination of this charmingly decorated historic space and traditional swiss cuisine made for a most delectable dinner. The rosti potatoes were as good as i've ever had anywhere in switzerland and the veal in mushroom sauce was sublime. the pumpkin cream soup with a large grilled shrimp was also incredible. great service. super convenient if you are staying near... This is a very nice high end but not too expensive restaurant in the heart of the old town of Saint Gaul just off the monastery complex. I particularly like it for its no hassle, good food, nice surrounding appeal. the building is very old and carries a lot of charm. The food is really good, I wound say particularly... More

This restaurant is a real treat and if you visit the city it's always a good idea to go here. The food is excellent, really the top. Be sure to have a reservation - there are only a few tables.

After seeing reviews on trip adviser, my friend and I tried it out. It was fantastic! Our favorite meal by far. We had the ratatouille soup (perfection!) and the bratworst. It was delicious! I would definitely reccommend this place to all St. Fallen visitors wanting a delicious take on tradition.

My wife and I were in St Gallen to see Spain play Chile. The night we arrived we came here to eat. This was due to a previous review about Bratwurst and rosti. We weren't disappointed, it was excellent. A small restaurant but with fantastic food and friendly (English speaking) service. Highly recommended. The soup was especially tasty.

typical historic first-floor St.Gallen Restaurant - as a home-sick SanGaller I go their for the local speciality: SanGaller Bratwurst (the local saussage) with Rösti (potato cake). I appreciate the long evening opening hours (and Saturday lunch ok too). Situated in the old town, next to the monestary.
