Service is good but not extraordinary, food is good but gets boring once you end up here for the second time. Good for business meals where you want a good but not extravagant place.

Wonderful food, helpful service, prices -- well, this is Switzerland after all (about $100 per person all in all). Reservations are a must, even during the week.

Were taken here for dinner with friends. Found the menu to be somewhat limited and found it a bit difficult to choose. None of the items totally grabbed me. Chose soup, beef tartare, braised beef and a chicken dish. Friends said tartare was great as well as chicken. The beef dish was very tender and tasty, mashed potato not to... More

Apparently a young new head chef and a new director in this nice and charming establishment. It was first time we were visiting this place with my friends but we will comin back! Fine and delicious dishes as Black cod on leek fondue with safran patatoes and bouillabaise sauce. Amazing fresh taste from south of France ! Service was really... More

See my seperate report. One night and lots of fun in a what used to be a prison cell, and that doesn`t go back so many years either.

Many have already offered good reviews, and I'll gladly join them. On a nice summer day, most, if not all guests, are seated outside, next to a large, old fountain, under shady trees, with a view of old-town roofs, a church and the gate that once led to this former prison (from which apparently quite a few managed to escape).... Was invited by a friend whilst visiting Basel. The ART Basel was taking place that week, so getting a reservation for two was difficult. We arrived early and the ART visitors had not arrived yet. The fish we ordered was very good and wine too, but then the groups of 6-8 persons per table arrived and we could forget about... More

Visited the place with some clients from Mexico. Although the setting in the Altstadt could eventually be great, the interior is clearly dated. The restaurant has a good name in Basel and therefore must have an international clientele, but the waiters can hardly help anyone in another language than Swiss German or French (but there are menus in English). Furthermore... More

This was a nice surprise. I visited with my old parents, and it was great in many ways: it was a calm, unobtrusive, pleasant ambience, noise levels were very low and it was not cramped as many places (which is important with elderly people who struggle to hear), the place was decorated with a hotchpot of artefacts of the era... A great place, monumental. Make sure to get in through the elevator from Barfuasslerplatz. A very good french kitchen, although the prices hurt knowing france is just a few hunderd meters away. But then again that is not the real france... Definetly worthwile.
