The Purefoy is by far the best restaurant around Basingstoke. Having visited many times (Birthdays, Valentines days and any other excuse we can find!) and had something different every time, myself, my partner & even our family have never had anything other than mouth wateringly delicious food. The service is always great, we never quite understand everything on the menu... More

We had a day just motoring around the lanes of Hampshire north of our hotel in the Meon Valley. Around noon we thought a pub lunch was in order and so we pulled in. Our pub lunch became an excellent dining experience and we were not unhappy to revise our plans for that evening. The barman in particular was welcoming... More

The menu is expensive, the quality is excellent. Sadly the same cannot be said for the service we received. The special dish of the day was described as "the dogs' danglies", which is hardly an appetizing description. This set the benchmark for the rest of the evening with sarcastic comments ensuing and wine being slopped all over the table. Given... More

My wife and I had an "anniversary" meal at the Purefoy Arms. It was superb, quite expensive but of exceptional quality and ambiance. The welcome was excellent from the staff and service friendly and professional. The food was freshly cooked, quite inventive mixtures of various ingredients, mostly local. If you enjoy draught beer, try the local Upham Beer, specially brewed... More

We were a group of four and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our food, wine and evening. The staff work extremely hard at keeping all patrons happy and at getting food and drink served in harmony. We will definitely be back! Well done guys your hard work is paying.

We visited the Purefoy Arms on a Travel Zoo voucher, this establishment is local to us. I started with the Wild Mushroom Parfait and my husband had the Salted Cod, both dishes were delicious. For the main I had Fish & Chips and my husband the Butchers Steak, again both dishes were faultless, the chips on both dishes were to... More

We recently had a superb lunch at the Purefoy Arms. It was our first visit so we weren't too sure what to expect but we had heard the food was of a very good standard, so hopes were high & we weren't disappointed. The menu is quite varied & we found an interesting range of choices. The portions aren't overly... More

We visited for lunch on a Wednesday and found the double dining-room pub well attended. Since we were a bit early I ordered some home-made bread with a small bowl of olive oil as a dip. There were three breads: white, Manchego and walnut - all very tasty, as was the oil. My starter was 'chalk stream trout rillettes, avocado... More

Oh if only every pub was as good as this. The Purefoy Arms at Preston Candover is between Arlesford and Basingstoke and positioned in beautiful countryside. Lovely motorcycling roads in the area and this makes a wonderful stop for an easy lunch. The menu has many tempting options and indicates the chef/proprietor's love of local produce, curing and generally good... More

I can understand well why you need to book in advance as this former Pub now restaurant is sublime and well worth the wait. The food was excellent I can recommend the Parsnip Veloute and the Haddock and Chips were probably the best I have ever sampled. I will be returning soon as I would rate this as just as... More
