While I respect the prices for pub food in Hay on Wye are all fairly high, I wasn't overjoyed about paying £13 for spaghetti bolognese that turned out to be watery and bland, and lacking in portion size. Not the hardest dish to get right. Dessert was similarly lacklustre, coated in icing sugar presumably as an attempt at disguise. Good... More

The food was fantastic, very pleasant & friendly atmosphere. Good wide range of beers, although none were local welsh, which was a little disappointing.

We were surprised and delighted with the quality of the meals provided at the Blue Boar Pub. It appears to be a family run business where the mother does that culinary magic behind the scenes and the daughter manages the ebb & flow of bar service. No doubt others in the family assist as well. Great people, excellent food (we... More

we were in the blue boar this afternoon and two very pleasant young ladies told staff that they were dissapointed they had to wait over an hour for there food and were not told of delay. The young bar man must of gone to told his boss because this young man came out very aggresive. He was pointing in her... More

My salmon tagliatelle dish was just OK (wish I had felt hungry enough for the panfried wood pigeon dish, it looked good), but the service was awesome thanks to the lady that took my order. Looked much more friendly and inviting than the other places I passed on the way!

Absolutely fantastic meal. A lovely menu, so much choice and my husband said the hake dish was so tasty. So nice to have a choice of vegetarian dishes for a change instead of just the usual token one.

We spent a pleasant weekend at the Hay on Wye Festival and used the Blue Boar Pub for our lunchtime meals. It 's a pleasant medium to large country town Pub, reasonably comfortable and selling good quality fare. Friendly welcome and good service since it is a busy time for all pubs in Hay during Festival time.

went in for coffee, midday, mid-week. Lovely old style pub in premier position in Hay on Wye with cosy nooks, interesting bric-a-brac and great potential. But it needs more obvious management, staff training and some attention to the toilets (the entry to which passes behind the kitchen). That said our home-made carrot cake was excellent.

No service, food was just OK. They did not seem to care if you were there or not!! It is a pub but if you have to sit in the bar area be prepared to wait and not be noticed.
