Everything just fell into place, the food, the wine and the service.

At the recommendation of a friend we had lunch at this restaurant while visiting Gubbio. It was such a nice surprise. We had the daily special for E15 each which included meat and bread, lasagna, salad, pork chops cooked in the fireplace in our dining room, water, coffee and wine. The staff spoke English and were so attentive.

Both my Italian travel book and a local recommended this restaurant for lunch. I went here for lunch with a couple of friends. We had the tourist menu for 15€ each. It sounds cheesy, but we were very impressed with the food. It consisted of antipasto, pasta, a meat dish with side, glass of wine and 1/2 litre bottled water... More

A solid family restaurant with honest food and open fireplace cooking. I had pasta with hare as starter and bistecca as main course. Really good, honest food on a Sunday night. My wife had a mozarella salat and agnello/lamb. Local Wines per glass were good quality and good recommendations. Do not expect fancy service and design chic furniture. To be... More

We dined early on Sunday evening, six adults and four children, the waitress, spoke great English, which made it easy to order, advised the touristic menu at 15 euros which included wine and water, she said we could add dishes or replace dishes, what she didn't explain was that if we added anything it was not reflected in the removed... We ate here on a Wednesday evening and were first through the door, the service was excellent, the menu reasonably priced, with fresh pasta and a choice of sauces for the children. my wife and I opted for the 28€ degustation menu! we left very full, amazed at the prices. The restaurant filled up quickly, the open fire doubled up... More

Picchio Verde (the Green Woodpecker) is the kind of family trattoria you always want to stumble upon. It is a bit away from the main tourist traffic in Gubbio and attracts a largely local crowd. The other customers and the staff all seemed to know one another. But foreign visitors like ourselves get an equally warm greeting. For value and... More

During our brief stay in Gubbio, we ate here twice! Are we boring ? I think not. The food is amazing, the staff exceptionally friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The house made pasta is incredible, nicely complemented by incredible sauces (I had fresh truffles both times ); the fresh artichokes amazing and the patate frittes ( yep, I... More

What a great restaurant! We had an amazing meal with wonderful service and a lovely atmosphere. We sat facing the open grill (not a BBQ like the States )and watched them grill all types of meats perfectly moving the embers from the fire while serving everyone in the restaurant at the same time. Our handmade pastas were perfection as well... More
