Description: The restaurant Giovannino's is a famil-run restaurant, situated in the calm of the Umbrian hills 4 kms from Assisi. Ample free parking lot. To this day our strong point has been the local specialities: handmade tagliatelle, meat which we still grill on the open fire accompanied by Umbria's most famous dish, 'torta al testo', a type of thick, soft, flat bread baked on the hearth. The 'torta al testo' that we make is not the traditional recipe that everyone knows, but is in fact a recipe thought up by Aurora, Giovannino's wife. Another very popular dish of ours is coratella, stewed lamb's liver. Our secret is to prepare good recipes and always use fresh ingredient avoiding anything which contains artificial colourants or preservatives.

I am there now and I have just got my food after two hours of waiting. The food is less than normal and the prices are too high for the quality

This authentic Umbrian restaurant wowed us with its traditional food and generous wine portions. From appetizers to desserts, everything was terrific and gave us a great introduction to the foods of Umbria. This was our favorite meal of our two week trip in Italy. The small attached store was a helpful find as we were on our way to an... More

We ate here twice while staying at Villamena just up the road. Service was good and food delicious. We understood it had been run by the same family for 50 years. Busy at weekends so reservations recommended then but during the week it seemed quieter.

We had dinner here- our family all loved it! Ravioli with sausage & truffle cream!!! Delicious, house wine and home made bread ... Fantastic value, the staff even spoke English after our poor attempt at Italian... We'll be back!

After a week in Italy we were starting to think all restaurants had the same menu. Then we found Giovannino outside Assisi. They had a large selection on the menu and everything we had was delicious! The bruschetta, polenta, and pork sausage were all excellent. We wish we had found is place sooner-we definetely would have gone multiple times.

Had fantastic food here last Wednesday evening and the service was great also. So went back again on Thursday !! Best food we found. Not over priced. Quality food. Great homemade pasta. They also have an exceptional wine list and can advise to suit. Probably the best restaurant t in the area.

We've eaten at de Giovannino on three different trips to Italy. The meats are cooked over a wood fire and everything we have eaten there has been tasty. It's family run and most of the clientele seem to be from the local area.

This is a gem, family-run, casual restaurant, just 4.5 k outside Assisi on hwy 444. There is a very good house wine, but the wine list is also fine. The "cold cuts" plate for first is very large. Make sure to get the in-house bread (torta di testa). We also had mixed grill, but the highlight was the pasta with... More
