Medieval gluten-free food for Celiacs in Siena

This place has a great atmosphere, with its arching brick ceilings. The food offerings fit very well into Siena's medieval past, and the servers could not be more friendly. It's the only restaurant we've been to in Italy in which the water comes in huge containers and gets filled fast. Worth... read more

We stay in a house near Siena and we want to taste tipical food. We found this restaurant that is really beautiful and the food is perfect. We really like this restaurant and we hope to return in Siena to eat here.

the pasta, the cheese, the meats, and the desserts were all amazing! the ingredients are all local and everything is completely handmade! Gallo Nero is a must-do in Italy if you are looking for authentic food and a great atmosphere while in Tuscany!

Medievaly characterized and friendly waitresses added up to their interesting (and large) "medieval" and "contadini" menus..., matched by a good Chianti (even though their prices are not so good for the wines).

The last time I was at Gallo Nero was when I was a university student in Siena. That was 1991. For 25 years, I have been craving the porcini mushroom pizza. When you don't forget a restaurant for more than 2 decades, you know it's beyond good. It's life changing.

Lovely old world charm restaurant near the piazza. Lovely gluten free choices including dessert. Would highly recommend this to gluten free and non gluten free travelers.

Nothing was right about the restaurant and it was the worst dinner we had in our two-week stay in Tuscany. The restaurant was actually recommended by our hotel (which we could not understand why), the 'highlight' being the waiters are dressed in medieval clothes. Once we stepped into the restaurant we immediately felt 'cheated'. There were only 2 waitresses, yes... More

The staff was trying to be so accommodating but it was not enough to divert from the mediocre food (bad veal sauce, almost tasteless pappardelle with porcini -we used the whole bowl of Parmesan- and an "ok" penne with zucchini), the terrible lighting inside, and the noisy, music-less environment. Since everyone was so loud around us, we put some Italian... More

Lots of gluten free options on the menu for our little one. Good food, fast friendly service, good value for money, just a shame we had to rush off as we had the long drive back to Rome. Next time, we'll stay for dessert.
