What a restaurant ought to be!

I have dined here before, in 2011. When I returned to Siena in March 2014, I went right back to Osteria il Campaccio. It is small, intimate place. The street is more of an alley, and you enter the restaurant through an iron gate in the stone wall and descend a flight of stone steps. In warmer... read more

We've been looking for a place to have dinner at on a Saturday night and suddenly we found this hidden Osteria nearby the monastery of Santa Caterina. The place itself is tiny and cosy. The waitress (Grazia) was nice and prepared, promptly answered all of our queries and went through a list of very good wines, through which we opted... More

My Mother & I stayed at Hotel Alma Domus & were willing to venture anywhere in the city for a chance to enjoy gluten free pizza. Osteria il Campaccio is a hidden gem just around the corner!! The staff was INCREDIBLE. Friendly, accommodating, & eager to ensure we had a wonderful experience. The pizza was fantastic - better than any... More

November visit. We were the only customers. Small place. Friendly. Atmosphere would probably be better with more diners. Radio was playing a football match commentary, which interfered with conversation at times. Food for meat eaters was great. For vegetarians/fish eaters, options on secondi piatti were very restricted. A good rustic pleasant meal.

We walked by this restaurant several times and were intrigued by the menu. We had dinner and were very impressed with the quality of the food in such a tiny place. The pear and pecorino pasta was delicious!!!!

This restaurant is situated under the arches of a cellar. There is also a little outside patio. We ate here eight times. And every time we rubbed the plates clean with a piece of bread. Pici alla agllione, Pizza Indiavolente, white cheese pizza’s, giant ravioli with cherry tomatoes. All excellent prepared and served by an all-female staff. Every evening we... More

When we asked the person at the desk of our hotel, Alma Domus, to suggest a restaurant, the told us about Osteria il Campaccio. What a great little place tucked down a side street! It was very close to our hotel and run by a busy family. After 2 weeks in Italy we had tried lots of Caprese and decided... More

This is a tiny restaurant that looks promising, tucked away in a small street. In common with many restaurants in Italy, they refuse to serve tap water, leaving you with the choice of bottled water or no water - first disappointment. The mixed antipasto was good, as were two pork dishes. The accompanying grilled vegetables were dry and unadorned. Contrary... More

One of the best values in our three week stay in Italy. Wonderful food and service. Hard to find a non tourist vibe in Siena, but this is it.

Walk down the stairs on the passageway to St. Caterina's house and find this hidden gem. You won't feel like a tourist but like a guest in a talented cook's house. The lemon sage chicken was delicious and it was fun to try the biscotti with Vino Santo.
