We were staying at the Palazzi di Vali, about mile from the centre of Siena. Because of heavy rain we decided to have lunch at restaurant just across the road and it was a good lunch. Good local dishes, great salami and ham, excellent rich Tuscan "Pate" on focaccia, gnocchi with a roasted garlic sauce and good house wine. Service... More

The food was amazing, full to the brim and great value. Watch out for the mozzies, pesky creatures will eat you while you eat but my God, the food is excellent!

A simple location, but with very innovative cooking. Absolutely great Italian kitchen and good value for money

I went based on warm reviews in guide books, expecting traditional Tuscan cuisine, and despite wanting to like Fori Porta, left disappointed. Maybe it was because the pasta carbonara (in house style) although tasty was extremely salty, the tagliata was dry and had little flavour (I now do see a similar comment in a review below), the vegetables lacked that... If you don't feel like trekking inside the town wall of Siena, this is an excellent choice. Food and service was topnotch.

We chose this restaurant based on the recommendation in the Michelin guide ("the place to try true Sienese fare"). However, the food & service were mediocre at best, the restaurant was filled with secondhand smoke, and the location was difficult to find and quite a long walk from the main part of the city. A disappointment, and not the food... More

I'd preface this post with: in our experience, the best restaurants in Tuscany (best = flavour, variety and value for money) are generally outside of the main "historic" towns. Inside the historic towns, majority of restaurants aim to rip-off tourists with average or below-average food at above average prices. Now for our review of Fori Porta: Executive summary: we were... Right next to our hotel at the outskirts of siena, a very nice atmosphere and wonderful genuine tuscany food. Seems like a family business, great meat and pasta, intimate service. Highly recommended!

We were there because it was late and this restaurant was the only one close to our hotel which located outside the Porta Romana. We heard this Trattoria is a family run one and the food are great, but turn out to be quite disappointing. First, the house wine was good. We easily finished our 1/2 litre. The antipasti was.....bad.... More

If you're looking for a wonderful meal in Tuscany, look no further than Fori Porta in Siena. The menu was suprisingly creative for a small neighborhood restaurant and everything we had was extrememly fresh and delicious. My husband had a creamy potoato/leek flan with pecorino cheese and black truffle (it was truffle season!). Since it was also mushroom season, I... More
