If you want to eat a very good Cecina in Pisa, you have to try Il Montino. I started to go to this restaurant some years ago and as a student of University of Pisa I frequently have a lunch here with my friends. It's great for a quick lunch - pizza, focaccia, panini - and position is very good,... More

We stopped by here for an early cheapo dinner. Two pizzas and one calzone which was excellent. Like a Cornish pastie full of ham and cheese. Very nice. The pizzas were ok nothing to rave about. Two Heineken beers one lemon soda can. Not all that cheapo at E33. Service was quick. Tables outside but was raining. Inside three tables.... More

"when in rome - do like the romans" - and when passing Il Montino we decided to do just that. A lot of locals is usually a good sign for good food and fair prices. Well, 3 pizza and 3 drinks came to 31,35 incl cover charge of 50 cent per person, but neither the long waiting nor the food... More

After visiting the tower with my wife we went for lunch. We had pizza with Mozzarela di buffala and another with mushroom and prosciutti. Most of the patrons were italian which speaks to the authencity of the food. Probably the best pizza I ever had in Italy. The place is a bit hidden but be patient and you will find... More

Been there a while ago. Its very popular with locals. Pity i didnt try cecina there which i didnt know that time its so good, just ordered some regular pizza, not memorable food. What i remember is location in little, bit doggy aley, not very clean. Place itself is simlpe and tiny. On one hand its nice, rustic, homey atmosphere... More

IL MONTINO was the first meal my family (3 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 3) ate during our travels in Italy during May-June 2013. The restaurant is off the beaten path and small. It has three small tables inside and outside seating during warm weather. The service was great. They spoke no English, but we worked it out... More

I had the Cecina (a kind of chick pea flatbread? Cake? Pancake?) in a focaccia. That's it, oh, and a Glass of Spuma which is a classic soft drink from the region) It was simple and we ate it out of paper sitting outside the place last Wednesday night. There are also seats inside f you want and a proper... More

Equally tourists and locals coming to dinner. Local speciality is chickpea pizza by slice (cecina). They do charge “pane e coperto” (0.50 euro) AND a service (10%).

Friendly, cozy, great food, amazing value. It is worth going to Pisa again just so I could go there and taste their food again. Traveled alot in Italy and I've never eaten anything like that. Not in ROme, Milan, Florence,,.. Il Montino is my no1.

A local recommended il Montino for the local torta cecina, a sort of sandwich of a cooked chick pea patty. It's in the back of an alley (vicolo Monte) off the piazza San Felice, and we almost walked by a couple of times. Study the Trip Advisor photos and look for the pizzeria neon sign. There is seating in the... More
