Fantastic dinner with classic Italian service and atmosphere

Our hotel recommended this restaurant for our final night. We were not disappointed. Excellent menu - not as extensive as other, more commercial restaurants, but a wonderful selection of items. We had a T-bone steak for two. Incredible meat - great flavor, well prepared. Overall the service was exceptional. Certainly geared to an up-scale customer base and you are looked... More

We were highly recommended here by our hotel, who luckily booked a table for us on what turned out to be a busy evening, many customers without reservations being turned away at the door. The restaurant was full just after we arrived at 8:00 and there was a nice, vibrant atmosphere with mostly tourists but we also noticed a couple... More

My husband and I were on a group tour of Italy and this was our first dinner on our own in Florence. We didn't have a reservation but they seated us quickly. The waiter was friendly and helpful. They did have a menu in English also which helped. We tried something different for us and it was delicious! Homemade Papperadelle... More

This place came highly recommended from friends and we were not disappointed. Best steak and pasta with truffles ever.

The staff was so pleasant during our dinner. Really went out of their way to make our dinner enjoyable. Excellent Gluten Free Choices including chocolate cake for dessert. But the Florentine T-Bone is the real reason to go to Buca Mario. So well cooked and flavorful. Didn't need any sauce to enjoy the flavor. Bravo!

Agreeing very much with one previous writer, that it was good yet nothing exceptional. Place was fully packed and you definitely need a reservation. The lady greeting the guest was warm and nice, and service all in all was friendly and all smiles. But the food was what didn't really leave that spectacular memory into our minds. Found some better... More

We went here at the recommendation of our conceirge at the St. Regis. Both the food and service were outstanding. We were greeted at the door and found the entire staff very professional, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit. We enjoyed it so much that we returned two nights later. In addition to great pasta dishes, they serve a wide... More

We were sent here by our concierge and ushered right in before the crowd of tourists who had not called ahead. We sat in the first room downstairs which was cozy and comfortable and certainly buzzing with activity. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly and the service very good. My wife had buratto and tomato and I started with the... More

Food is good but not exceptional. Frendly service. Place is noisy. Price is overrated. Wine list has many local expensive wines. Too much touristic place. Nothing exceptional

Top notch food and service at this highly rated restaurant! If you are a meat-lover in any shape or form, this is the place for you! Fresh fish and wonderful salads and pasta too. Attentive service, English-speaking staff and owner presence all make this an authentic, first-class experience! While formal, Buca Mario is still very warm and homey. Dessert is... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
