Meat Sweats!

We had been at a restaurant across the street and on the way back noticed this little gem. The decor inside was cute and clean. We were early and the first ones in the window as the alley is not that great. We had caprese salad shared, roasted potatoes for two and the florentine steak for two. I... read more

Small family run restaurant with one wait staff, but he was able to take care of everyone in very timely manner. The food menu was simple, but the food was amazing. My husband had a pene pasta with black olive tomatoes and garlic. The pasta was cook to perfection, the tomatoes sauce was so fresh with mouth watering garlic flavor.... More

My partner and I just had dinner at this restaurant and really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic and the waiting staff were lovely and very friendly. My partner had a huge pork steak glazed with balsamic vinegar and I had meatballs with mushrooms. We shared a portion of rosemary roast potatoes. We then had a tiramisu and a strawberry... More

Our boar appetizer was fantastic. My wife was adventurous enough to try the Florentine style tripe, and it was delicious. My sausage with white beans was good, but not great. We shared a house red wine that was nice as well. This was described to us as a local hangout, but the only locals there were working. It was authentic... More

We spent two weeks in Italy - from Venice to Rome and this little restaurant (which was recommended by our hotel) had the best food we tasted. Authentic, tasty and fresh. We loved it so much that we went twice!

We went here as it was recommended by the front desk of our hotel. We had a nice table outside and were able to people watch as we ate a fantastic meal. The service was great and the menu had the perfect selection of antipasto, first and second courses. Don't miss the risotto with leeks, delicious!

Ok. The hotel sent us to Il Profeta. We went in and found all tourists at more than twice the price of this place down the block. It's a simple place but we loved what we had. All patrons spoke Italian The gnocchi was so light and perfect. My pork chop wonderful and she had the tagliatelle with wild boar... More

This is a restaurant that appeared to have little local trade, but had mostly tourists. Nevertheless, the food was excellent and the service prompt and efficient.. we mixed and matched a few dishes. The steak Florentine was superb. A VERY big portion so be warned. I like my meat rare and this did not disappoint!! We had a chicken dish... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
