"La Cucina del Garga" arrived on the Florence restaurant scene when Chef Alessandro Gargani returned from an 8 year run as Executive Chef in New York City's famous "Mezzogiorno Restaurant" in SOHO. It is there that he practiced his craft, honed his recipes and started his family. From an early age, his parents Sharon Oddson and Giuliano Gargani AKA "Il Garga" had instilled in him their passion for food and art. In 2010, he returned to his hometown to continue the family tradition born at The Trattoria in Via del Moro and then brought here to Via San Zanobi. The restaurant is an art gallery as well as showcase where talented local artists have the opportunity to show their work and customers can purchase paintings or sculptures to enrich their own private collections.

Wonderful Experience

From the moment of arrival it was as I had read the reviews and seen on Triple D, from the free glass of prossecio to start the whole meal was unrushed and most relaxing evening of my trip as the first course we ate was called Il Magnifico

So happy to come across this wonderful restaurant and only around the corner from our hotel. From the moment we entered we were greeted by warm smiling friendly staff. The decor was so colourful with so much to look at including great works of art. The food was absolutely delicious, my husband having the chicken with Dijon mustard cream sauce... More

The food here is second to none - small, but excellent - great atmosphere - busy but not overwhelming. Service is great.

This place is great!!! Eclectic art, attentive staff and quiet ambiance round this place out well. The food is a fusion of traditional Italian and NY City Cafe. Worked well.

Enjoyed some great eating here after having it recommended by staff at Palazzo Castri 1874. Great meal all-round and nice that the chef came out to greet us as we were closing out the restaurant. We will be back!

The service was great. A small mistake with the order of the dishes was quickly and apologetically acknowledged and quickly address. Friendly and efficient. The food at our table was consistently praised by all three of us. The space is a bit unusual with many paintings that range from sensual to angry. Definitely creates an ambiance, but did not stop... Outstanding food. Fantastic staff, welcomed us with a glass of persecco while we waited for our table. We requested recommendations and were very happy with their choices. The table beside us ordered a steak that looked so mouthwatering and was huge - enough for at least four people. The BEST cheesecake we have ever eaten an absolute must.

One of the best meals I have had in Italy hands down. Top rate wait staff. Amazing wine selection. Down home cooking without the fuss of other "fine dining" establishments. We sat for hours enjoying multi-level courses from the varied menu. Something for everyone from vegetarians to children.
