"La Cucina del Garga" arrived on the Florence restaurant scene when Chef Alessandro Gargani returned from an 8 year run as Executive Chef in New York City's famous "Mezzogiorno Restaurant" in SOHO. It is there that he practiced his craft, honed his recipes and started his family. From an early age, his parents Sharon Oddson and Giuliano Gargani AKA "Il Garga" had instilled in him their passion for food and art. In 2010, he returned to his hometown to continue the family tradition born at The Trattoria in Via del Moro and then brought here to Via San Zanobi. The restaurant is an art gallery as well as showcase where talented local artists have the opportunity to show their work and customers can purchase paintings or sculptures to enrich their own private collections.

You Can't Miss This Place

My favorite restaurant of my two week, four city trip to Italy. If you are in the Florence area, you must go! We tried to make a reservation a few hours before we wanted to go and we were told we could not be accommodated. We decided to test our luck in person and just walked in. Luckily they... read more

Tried this place because of reviews here and the Florence episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We weren't as impressed as we were with other restaurants in Florence. We arrived around 7:30 without a reservation and were seated right away. The decor is cute and different. We were given a free fried polenta appetizer, which was ok. A little too... More

I love this restaurant and visit every time I go to Florence - but you need to book in advance, it's very popular with regulars and tourists alike. My top tip would be to book a fairly late table, the atmosphere is more fun and the chef(s) usually come out of the kitchen to chat to diners and maybe share... More

We ate at Garga in late July and it was probably one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Their food is simply amazing. This is a place where locals go and the prices are good. My husband and I shared an amazing pasta dish (tagliatelle with cream and orange/lemon zest) and then each got a main dish -... More

I've been living in Florence for nearly a year now and, without a doubt, La Cucina del Garga is my favourite restaurant in the whole city. Not only is the food exceptional (the Tagliatelle al Magnifico and the Petto di Pollo All' Avocado both nearly brought me to tears they were so good!), but the atmosphere in the restaurant is... I have been living in Florence for two years and La Cucina del Garga is hands down my favorite restaurant in town. The menu is full of unique yet traditional Florentine dishes. The incredibly talented chef is "figlio d'arte" whose family has been in the restaurant business for generations. The service is wonderful and you are sure to feel right... More

We had a lovely meal at Garga. The staff were friendly and the food was classic Italian fare that was prepared at a high standard. We loved the artistic décor. The restaurant encourage its patron to use markers to draw on the table clothes which we also enjoyed. Apparently they also offer cooking lessons - sorry we didn't get a... More

My husband and I visited this restaurant after seeing it showcased on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Though it's none of those and very much a lovely restaurant, Guy Fieri's recommendation was on point. The food was so, so good! We had the Inslata del Garga -- great taste. Rocket, aka argula, is a big component in Italian salads and it... More

From the moment of arrival it was as I had read the reviews and seen on Triple D, from the free glass of prossecio to start the whole meal was unrushed and most relaxing evening of my trip as the first course we ate was called Il Magnifico

So happy to come across this wonderful restaurant and only around the corner from our hotel. From the moment we entered we were greeted by warm smiling friendly staff. The decor was so colourful with so much to look at including great works of art. The food was absolutely delicious, my husband having the chicken with Dijon mustard cream sauce... More
