"La Cucina del Garga" arrived on the Florence restaurant scene when Chef Alessandro Gargani returned from an 8 year run as Executive Chef in New York City's famous "Mezzogiorno Restaurant" in SOHO. It is there that he practiced his craft, honed his recipes and started his family. From an early age, his parents Sharon Oddson and Giuliano Gargani AKA "Il Garga" had instilled in him their passion for food and art. In 2010, he returned to his hometown to continue the family tradition born at The Trattoria in Via del Moro and then brought here to Via San Zanobi. An excellent diner with a bit of a hiccup in the service.

We went to this restaurant on our last night in Florence, it was only 2 streets from our hotel, we had a great night. The restaurant has a really unique decor and atmosphere, it was really nice to sit there and have a meal. For a starter I had the fettuccine with orange and lemon, beautiful, the orange and lemon... My wife and I ordered the steak and it was without disappointment! Every server was exceptionally friendly and spoke both English and Italian. The atmosphere isn't stuffy, which starts with the tablecloths you can draw on. If looking for a great dinner on the same side of town as the central train station we'd definitely recommend it!

Three of us ate dinner here recently, having heard lots of hype about this restaurant. The neighborhood is a little out of the way, in a sort of iffy area. The restaurant offers diners colored markers with which to draw on the top paper tablecloths. Art (some quite unusual) adorns most walls. Service was adequate to good, and we were... More

A little off Florence's beaten tourist path (but too far), this easy-going but refined establishment has a classic feel but without all the stuffy attitude. The wait staff is young and helpful. The food is divine. The veal we ordered might have been the best we ever had in Italy or in the US. English-language guide books like this place,... More

Excellent food, delightful service. We showed up without reservations on a Friday evening at 9:00, were offered a glass of prosecco while our table was set, and were made to feel welcome and comfortable. We found the prices quite reasonable for the kind of food (perfectly cooked pasta, fresh, rich flavours) and service (prompt, responsive, graceful).

We visited as a family, spouse and 20 year old son accompanied me. The restaurant is comfortable and visually appealing thanks to the old building it is in and the eclectic artwork from local artists. The service was impeccable and very friendly. They went out of their way to accommodate us as we got into Florence late and they moved... More

The best meal we have had in Italy so far! The porchini mushrooms were so well cooked - we love mushroom dishes and have never had mushrooms this fresh and delicious. The ingredients were all fresh and as vegetarians we were beyond pleased. Definitely worth a visit - we are going back again (2 times in 3 dinners). The staff... More

We made a reservation in advance as the restaurant tends to get booked. The ambiance is lovely and artistic and contemporary and the staff professional and helpful (which is a must when so many tourists don't speak Italian). But the food is simply the best. The wine list is extensive as well. We shared an excellent salad and an artichoke... More
