Mediocre experience.

Food was quite expensive but well cooked and presented. The decor is very white and looks rather cold. This was coupled with the fact that it was cold inside. The place requires a bit more heating in December. I was not impressed with the large wall mounted television showing football even though... read more

My sister and I took the high speed train from Rome to visit Florence. After sightseeing we stopped at this restaurant for lunch. It was a pleasant change from the Rome restaurants that charge a service fee and charge for bread. We shared their "big salad" which was very good and large size. We ordered the spaghetti and clams that... More

We were staying close by and decided to try this place. Wish we hadn't... Unfriendly staff. Over ripe tomatoes on the bruschetta and tasteless. Waited long time for main course even though wasn't busy. Tasteless meals and cheap parmesan. Avoid.

Stopped in Florence on the way back home. Very crowded friday night and booking a table elsewhere was not possible. Anyway, ridicolous "crostini alla toscana" and the worste "fiorentina" I ever had: initially well cooked but cold and then, after asking for some heating, terribly overcooked. Not to mention that it has been served already sliced like a "tagliata". Keep... More

On the outside it looks like the average Italian restaurant. Go in anyway. Excellent pizza, al dente pasta all served in an inviting atmosphere. Fast and friendly service. Reasonable prices and no irritating copierto (cover charge). I never stop by Florence without one meal here.

I ordered a pasta with Bolognese meat sauce. After 2/3 of dish, that little thing appeared... And which is not so bad, the Restutant admit it and free of charge for that pasta. But Compare with its neighbor Ristorante Vincanto, it's quite good.

Great location for a terrace. Thought it would be a great place to have lunch before taking our train. Service was not particularly attentive. The food came super fast which might explain why it was bland. Pizza was bland lacking taste. Risotto also lacked spices and salt. For the view and the convenience of being close to the train station... More

We stopped here leaving stazione SMN because it smelled so good, but should have kept going. Food gets 1 star: it wasn't bad, just not good enough to waste a meal on when you're in Florence. The staff were very friendly and accommodating though. Just wish the food was better.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
