A very pleasant surprise

We arrived in Florence too late for lunch at the restaurant we had chosen, and the concierge at our hotel recommended this one, close by. There were 5 of us, and we each had an excellent meal of local specialties, served by a very attentive waitress who took the time to explain each unfamiliar... read more

While this place is not right in the middle of the tourist scene, this is all to the better. It was not crowded, the food was wonderful and the service was excellent. You can't go wrong coming here.

This is a smaller place on a side street near San Lorenzo church. The food was the best I had in Tuscany. It was simple, delicious, and not overpriced. The wait staff was very so sweet and attentive. I wish I had found this place sooner!

Bistecca a la Fiorentina, enough said. A friend of ours referred us to this wonderful restaurant. We were very pleased to be greeted by the most friendly waiters/owners ever. The place is great to eat with your friends, family or date. We had some of the best steaks and pasta of our lives. I'm writing this review and drooling at... More

We really enjoyed our food and the friendly treatment we received at this family owned and operated restaurant. Outstanding Italian food *without* pressure to buy multiple courses. Staff was attentive and took time out to chat with us and make our visit quite pleasant.

When we first walked in, we weren't certain if we had made a good choice or not. Staff seemed a little cold and place was almost empty. If we had left, it would have been a horrible mistake. Once seated staff was extremely warm, spoke little English, but menu was in Italian and English. Caprese salad was awesome (if you... More

We had an amazing dinner. The tradicional toscana beef is incredible! The place and the staff are really great and very carefully. We just love the wine, the grilled vegetables and of course, the meal. Great!

The Gnochi were very tasty and the staff was very nice. An enjoyable dinner at reasonable prices. Away from the most crowded places, and still in the city centre.

Walked into the restaurant because we wanted to find something to eat quickly. Best idea we had the entire trip. The food here was great. The service was also great. Even though we had very poor Italian they were patient with us and helped us to order what we wanted. The Bistecca alla fiorentina was amazing and I would highly... More

Found this little place on our first evening in Florence and were pleasantly suprised with the tasty food. Caprese and bruschetta were great, the steak was tasty and tender and the cheesecake delicious. We enjoyed the very friendly service and returned twice more, making sure we made a reservation for our last night. On a different level than the 2... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
