a good lunch in Florence

I took my aunt out for lunch on a very hot day in Florence. We stumbled across this restaurant and liked that it had placed jugs of water and glasses outside for thirsty passers by. The welcome was friendly. We were offered a slightly uncomfortable table - hard up against where the menus are... read more

This place was recommended to us by someone we met in Florida. We held onto the card for nearly a year. We decided we wanted to go the first night in Florence. Hotel David was kind enough to make a reservation for us and arrange transportation. This place might be a little difficult to find but it is worth negotiating... More

We caught up with our traveling group at this restaurant on our first night in Florence. What a terrific introduction to Cucina Toscana ! There were 10 of us and we had reservations which I think was a good idea. The place was warm & friendly with English speaking waiters for those in the group who didn't speak Italian. Even... More

This place was recommended by a local - it was a good choice. I would recommend it to others. I am of Italian background and i like to think i know a good Italian meal. I had the traditional Rigatoni Pasta, which the tomato and cheese - it was really, really good. For main i had the Veal Osso Bucco... More

Excellent service by Marco, the food was excellent and great place even with small kids. Osobuco and bisteca a la fiorentina were great. Good location in back alley 10 mins from Ponte Becchio

An excellent restaurant but you must find it. Slightly off the beaten track, but well worth a visit.

13 Gobbi is one of those restaurants that seem like they would be a tourist trap. Even though, as Americans, we live here and speak pretty passable Italian, it's almost impossible to use it at 13 Gobbi - the waiters switch into English as soon as they realize you're a foreigner. Not a big deal, but don't expect to practice... More

As soon as we walked in the door we felt like we were walking into one of our favorite kitschy Brooklyn spots. This place has eclectic decor with great mismatched dishes, and walls plastered with American actors and ads for olive oil and pellegrino. We came for the Florentine steak and were pleased to find they didn't even ask how... More

This is a hidden gem around the corner from the Westin and St Regis in Florence. The steaks are huge and only comparable to the most premium steaks and is a must try. The chocolate cake is to die for. Don't be scared away from the narrow quiet street that the restaurant is on, it is safe and once you... More

Our hotel had recommended this trattoria for dinner in July 2013. Our meal then was wonderful; we returned for lunch on our last day and the meal was as delicious as we remembered it to be!

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
