Perfect hidden gem, authentic tuscan meal

Incredibly affordable and incredibly authentic. If you are looking for a food experience that is truly tuscan, this is the place to go. You sit at tables with other groups, and the menu is short and basic. I had the ribolitta, a tuscan bread soup served throughout Florence, and it was unbelievable... read more

We have been going to Trattoria Mario for several years now on our annual pilgrimage to Firenze in January. It is a great time of the year to visit as there are not as many tourists and the weather can sometimes be very good. We had lunch there on two days of our three-day visit. It is good quality food... Mario's is only open for lunch, usually a line, and is a crowded communal seating atmosphere. However, we got to meet several awesome people sitting with them, and the food is authentically delicious. We were in Florence for a month and probably ate there 20 times. Loved it.

Great food at affordable price. Though most people go for the bistecca fiorentina (t-bone), they do other food like roast chicken quite well. Great housewine as well. At 35 euros per kg for the fiorentina, it is a bargain.

We arrived at 1 ish after reading reviews on trip advisor. There were people waiting but you give your name and they tell you to come back in n 15 mins. When we were called we were seated at a table with 2 guys who we presumed worked locally and were on their lunch break. There is no menu and... More

We were on a day trip from Rome and didn't want to waste a meal so I went on TA and found this gem highly rated for the steak. We arrived at 2:15 and were told a 15 minute wait which turned out to be accurate ( I was a little worried because the hours are only from 12-3 and... More

Trattoria Mario is justly famous for its Bistecca Fiorentina -- a huge T-bone steak from a special breed of Chianti cattle. It's served rare, VERY rare, salted and with a lemon wedge, with an exquisite crust. You can get a simple, but well made, salad, and the French fries were excellent. At the other end of our communal table, a... More

My girlfriend and I were recommended to eat here. The placed was packed with tourist and it seemed liked it would be a worthwhile visit. The pasta was amazing but the steak, in my opinion was undercooked.

Lunch here initially like you are in a crowded bus, because there is always a brief wait and no room at the entrance. You might feel a bit perturbed as men push past you to exit the back door. What do they know that you don't. Well, they are locals and going to the second room, while as a tourist,... More

This typical florentine restaurant is really worth a visit. Forget ketchup, here is not allowed, you can order typical dishes only. It is very crowdy and little but very funny, the atmosphere is great, they cook very well, I recommend it,
