This neighbourhood local is a breath of fresh air for those seeking something other than standard tourist fare. We sampled several delicious Tuscan specialities, including of course the Pappa al Pomodoro, delicious Cannelloni, and an excellent Tiramisu. Porcini mushrooms were available, and were unusually for me, fried in batter. The house wine was perfectly adequate, and reasonably priced, and the... More

Al Travai is a bit off the beaten path, but if you want an authentic Tuscan meal, this is the place for you. The food is delicious and should be washed down with the house wine. There are no menus... the list of selections is written on a chalkboard by the front door. The Fritte Verdure (fried veggies) are my... More

This is a typical Florentine rustic restaurant. If you are looking for fancy, large tables and space this is not for you. Lovely atmosphere in a small space like going back to the 1950's! food is delicious typical foods that include brain, tripe although even if you are vegetarian you can go for the classic Tuscan Soups and traditional pasta... Lunch of the daily fresh pasta with house wine. Starter of beautiful bruschetta. Finish the meal with a wonderful dessert and expresso. Friendly, delicious food and inexpensive.

Several years ago I read such amazing reviews of this restaurant that I was determined to try it out. On that trip to Florence 4 years ago, my son husband and I ate at Al Tranvai 3 times. We even sat next to a famous Burmese cookbook author on one visit who echoed our delight with the offerings of this... More

Al Tranvai served us one of our best meals in Italy. It's a no-nonsense place for excellent, interesting Tuscan food. They took good care of our family of four, including two small children. It is cramped and it's not a beautiful room, but it's great food. I wish I could go back tonight.

Dodge the tourists. This was the real deal. Delicious rustic local fare. The house wine was really good. Family loved it. Children are fried rabbit and zucchini and wanted more.

I'm so glad I found this place on my last day in Florence as it's a great local friendly restaurant serving proper home cooked food. A small traditional menu but I had serious food envy even though mine was delicious. I asked for a glass house red wine they gave me a bottle but you only pay for what you... More

This is a very authentic place, with no English version of the menu, luckily the waitress was very nice and translated the menu for us. We had the special pasta of the day, which had mussels and they gave us some crushed red pepper to make it spicy, it was really good. We had fried zucchini and fried zucchini flowers,... More
