Description: At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

Went with a group of 5 of us and got lots of dishes to share. All of them were good, some (especially the tortelli and pici pasta and the filet mignon) were exceptional. The service was efficient and friendly and the restaurant itself had a great atmosphere. Good winelist and had an excellent chianti classico. Highly recommend this place if... More

We came across this restaurant and it was quite full so were asked if we would mind dining in the wine cellar, which was fine with us and quite quaint. The wine list was extensive and we were offered a glass of prosecco to start and water for the table as well as some delicious fried bread. There is a... More

How fabulous to read this! When we "hit the nail on the head" we get filled with happiness, every single time! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, and for loving our cellar! Perhaps we might meet again one day. More

My wife and I went here for our last night in Florence and, as dedicated carnivores, had already sampled bistecca alla florentina in several restaurants in Italy including elsewhere in Florence. L'Osteria di Giovanni's bistecca was the best one we had - the charcoal grill gave it a delicious seared flavour which enhanced the sumptuous taste and texture of the... More

We sincerely do hope that you do decide to return to Florence one day in the future. There is no greated compliment to our city than those who want to come again. We will be waiting for you with some juicy items on the menu - pehaps you might try the suckling pig this time, or ossobuco! More

I was there for a business dinner with some colleagues of mine to have taste Italian food. It was quite good. "Burrata" and "Fiori Fritti" were the excellence we eat. Tuscany red wine was fine, in line with the exceptions. A little bit of noises, as several people were there speaking a little bit loud. Services were normal. The beef... More

This is a bustling restaurant (and much larger than it appears from the exterior), yet the service was great and the servers were super funny and entertaining. The cover charge here is 4euro each, which seemed high, but we quickly saw it included all sorts of extra surprises including fried bread, a bowl of riboletta, and vin santo and the... More

Now that is the reason we are located just 5 steps from the river bank - so that you can enjoy a long leisurely walk back to you hotel or wherever and work off some of that tum! So glad you enjoyed your meal so much! More

Friendly staff, lots of locals dining which is usually a good sign but the food was mediocre, the risotto was tasteless, we were hoping for a fancy restaurant but ended up in a common place. I would not go back.

Oh! Well at least some of your experience was good. We are certainly not a fancy restaurant so in fact you were correct there, and yes lots of lovely locals here too. But despite not being fancy (borrowed from Wiki "An osteria (Italian pronunciation: [osteˈria]) in Italy was originally a place serving wine and simple food. Lately, the emphasis has... More

Food was locally sourced, very fresh, service was very good, very attentive and not too expensive. I highly recommend this place.

Booked about 4 hours before we needed a table. Told we would be in the cave. From previous reports I thought that would be fantastic. To me it just seemed like a room out the back so not sure what happened there. Fantastic service, complimentary glass of Prosecco to start. Fried breads were delicious. We went straight to Bistecca alla... More

Now this is our second review in as many days that talks about the "cave"! So we are getting worried. As we explained in the previous review, we have a downstairs cellar. It's a 500 year old cellar with exposed brick vaulted ceilings and you eat with max 10/12 diners and several thousand bottles of wine! It's not for everyone... More

the main restaurant was fully booked so we booked places at a table in the 'cave', yes literally surrounded by an amazing selection of wines, one of which we selected. The waiter was attentive and friendly and brought us each a glass of prosecco and some salted bites as he showed us to our table. I started with a large... More

When we read the title of this review we admit we were concerned! Then we read on and said to ourselves "oh, the "cantina". Literally "cellar" in English. Down a hidden staircase behind the bar, through a narrow bottle-lined tunnel and into the ..... cave! A valuted ceiling-ed room holding several thousand bottles of wine! We get your "cave" comparison!... More
