Description: At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

This small restaurant defines what a great family owned and operated restaurant should be. The daughter of the owner studied in the United States and is really friendly. The menu is traditional Florentine fare with plenty of dishes from which to choose. The food and experience make this a must for your visit.

Good quality food and decent service. Difficult to find a better bistecca fiorentina in Florence. Great wine list also.

We went to this restaurant twice Because of the excellent first time experience. The food was of an incredibly high standard and our waiter was very friendly and generous even offer us complementary bean soap, prosecco, and cantacelli with sweet wine, to introduce us to the local dishes! We loved the cantacelli very much, and the owner of the place... More

Visited on a Monday. The restaurant was packed but they managed to find a table for the four of us with very short wait (5 mins). We were started off with a complimentary glass of Prosecco. We ordered our mains and a bottle of wine. The food was out very quickly and was absolutely delicious. The Osso Bucco and roasted... More

The food was decent, the restaurant was empty when we got there but got full before we received our order. It gets very noisy when full, although the staff are very friendly the service is slow. It is pretty expensive for the average quality of food you eventually get.

We are lucky enough to have five different seating areas - each with different acoustics. Some rooms are lively and bustling and noisy, some ore secluded and quieter. We are sorry that yours didn't work out. Note taken on your various points, we are of course disappointed, but always try to listen hard and learn where we can. More

Context: First day in Florence with my girlfriend. Food: Every single thing we ordered was delicious. - Ensalada Capresse (Burratta) - Bistecca a la Fiorentina: Absolutely delicious. If you go here you have to try it; everyone in the place (from locals to tourists) was having it and (I can assure it) enjoying it. - Tiramissu: Big, creamy, great! Service:... More

My husband and I went to Italy for our honeymoon. This restaurant was highly recommended by the concierge at our hotel. We were not disappointed. I ordered the ossobuco while my husband had the Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Both dishes were AMAZING! We tell everyone traveling to Florence that dining at Osteria di Giovanni is a must! Great food, great atmosphere... More

Picked this one on TA and booked by e-mail with a prompt confirmation from Catarina. In a quiet street just up from Ponte alla Carraia this was only a few minutes' walk from our hotel. Loads of art on the walls and modern mobile pendant lighting. Mix of local and overseas customers. Quickly seated in the rear section of the... More

Well swapping has to be a good thing - especially if you both end up happy! Glad you loved it, and we adored reading your details review. The cover charge thing? It's an old Italian way, probably outdated as you noted. But "when in Rome"!. Gratuities here are really an optional, and when you tip for us it means you... More

My son took me here to celebrate a special birthday. The crusty bread with olive oil was amazing. We shared a pasta dish and steak Florentine. The food was very good and the service was wonderful. Was it outstanding? No. But it was very good (as was all the food in Italy. Not a bad meal anywhere.) The atmosphere was... More

We are glad it was good, but we really do want to be outstanding! We are not fine-dining, we are not Michelin starred, but we want to be an amazing experience people don't forget. So we will be working on that. Thank you so much for choosing us. More

We had a nice dinner in this restaurant with the nice decorations. We start with ribollita, the famous vegetable soup with pieces of bread and black cabbage and continue with the huge veal steak. Very good serice and very good quality of the meat.
