Description: At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

I don't normally write reviews but I had a great time at the restaurant. The staff where knowledgeable about the food and wines and happily answered any questions we had. We were expecting bread on the table but instead was served little mounds of soft but crispy fried bread to nibble on (amazing). As Tuscany is famed for its meat... More

The restaurant staff was very nice, and although very busy, they did make their way to the table as much as possible . The food was good but not over the top. There are restaurants in Florence that are not as expensive and the food is impressive. That being said, there were six of us, and I told the waiter... More

Delicious food and friendly staff made this one of our better meals in Florence. Our driver from the train station said it was where he brought visiting friends. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but so are all the restaurants in Florence. We had a seafood pasta that was a daily special which my daughter said was awesome. So good in... More

We went to this restaurant after reading all the good reviews in TripAdvisor, but unfortunately we were quite disappointed. Food is below the average quality I've had in Florence and way above the average price. Pasta portions are quite small (the only big thing is the plate itself) and quite expensive for what you get. An extra 4€/person are charged for... More

Disappointing for your and us both. We are so sorry that we did not live up to expectations and are well aware that this is the price one pays for having some really great reviews. We would ask that you take the time to read a review written just a couple of days ago entitled Good Food, Really Friendly Staff,... More

I read about this restaurant in a blog where the author said you will be sure to find a fantastic restaurant to your liking on her list. 20 restaurants were recommended: 5 from the author personally, 5 from Trip Advisor favorites, 5 from locals, and 5 from the local Italian magazine. This restaurant was her recommendation, saying it had locals... More

The thing that we really adore about this review is that you loved the experience even if everything wasn't totally perfect for you. A great way to tell us where we can improve, and doing it very very nicely! We appreciate that. The squab is a Florentine bird, and as often happens is somewhat smaller and less bulky that its... Giovanni and Catarina are amazing hosts. The father/daughter run this jewel restaurant in Florence. A must try!

Our "family" is even bigger than just myself (Caterina) and Giovanni. All of our staff are our big extended family, and it's being a team that makes this happen. Thank you for noticing! More

We really liked it here, the food was very good and our waiter was so cheeky he always made us smile. He also knew his stuff when we had questions about the menu. If we had one negative then it would be that the pasta portions were just too much. It meant that instead of really loving them, we ended... More

We hear you! Portion size is a hard one. We have had comments that they are too much, just right and too small! It's such a subjective point, but we do understand. We can only say, never feel obliged to finish something - eat as much as you enjoy! But overall we think you had a good time and make... More

After walking past this busy restaurant for more than 3 weeks we decided to book for dinner. We arrived to a warm welcome from the owner, who showed us to our table. While we were looking at the menu, a glass of prosecco and tasty fried bread balls arrived. We ordered the antipasti - a plate of mixed meats, ricotta... More

Booking is good and can be done direct from our site. In a perfect world we would never turn anyone away, but that often happens, especially at around 8.30/9pm. We are so pleased that you finally decided to try us out after walking past for three whole weeks! Perhaps you'll come back again one day :-) More

Very friendly. Hostess spoke excellent English. Waiter was very pleasant. However, after asking for recommendations, he sold us more food than we could comfortably eat. The cost was 155 Euros before tip, which is very expensive for Florence. The food was tasty but not worth the price. There are too many good, more reasonably priced restaurants to go again.

We all speak English to a greater or lesser degree, and can manage German, French, Spanish, and a couple of other languages if really pushed! But somehow we always manage to talk to everyone. We are really sorry that we don't know what you ordered. We often bring extra "tastes" of things that are not ordered at NO extra cost,... More

I had a list of restaurants to eat at in Florence recommended by friends and went to none for one reason or another. This restaurant was recommended by an owner of another restaurant which I will also review, and I am so thankful he shared this place with us. From start to finish, the food was incredible, and I'm not... More
