Once upon a time there was a very old mill. Today it is a charming Locanda with a special typical Tuscan Restaurant, completely renovated by Silvia and Riccardo Baracchi, owners too of “Relais & Châteaux Il Falconiere”. A heaven of tranquillity and elegance, in the middle of the Cortona countryside, a land famous for its culture, cuisine, and great wines. The style of cuisine inside the Locanda is simple and genuine, but never ordinary.

A Tuscan Gem

If you travel from Cortona over the hills east, you can visit the atmospheric 11th century Rocca di Pierle, now scaffolded as they attempt to reconstruct the old castle. But on your way back to Cortona via the SP35, on the right, just as you enter Montenare, you will find Locanda del Molino. Don't... read more

We stayed here for 4 nights in this beautiful converted mill and ate dinner twice. Both times we had the fillet steak, which is the best I have ever eaten - so tender and full of flavour. The ricotta stuffed courgette flowers were also stunning. Menu had emphasis on local Tuscan dishes. The host and manager Stefano was very charming... More

The food, the atmosphere... A real Tuscan lunch... And Graziella, the original owner and mother of Silvia, the chef of Il Falconiere , was the best! I loved also Stefano who made our experience very special. I loved his suggestions: tagliolino with Tartufo and the grilled Chianina meat

The food was OK - some good things, some acceptable, but nothing great or bad. Where this place let itself down was the service. It started with a "si" (yes?) not a good evening or a welcome. One table had guests, 15 tables were empty and we got a"yes"? To put it bluntly both waiters were on the cusp of... More

I didn't enjoy the fritto as much as everyone said I would - it was too doughy for my taste - but the ambience and company made up for it.

They have an amazing terrace out the back which has a stream running along side it. Amazingly relaxing and lovely atmosphere. Great wait staff (very smiley). Food was superb, we had beef fillet and it was superb. They have their own vineyard and so we drunk their brand of wine and it was very good. We actually bought a bottle... More

This is a fantastic restaurant recommended by the hotel Il Falconiere, where we stayed. Hidden away in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Everything was absolutely amazing, food, wine and ambience.

We got to the restaurant a bit early for dinner, but Paula was very welcoming and aranged a table for 12 without thinking twice. The food was excellent. Fresh, tasty and with the best product. But the service is what made the experience the best. We had some car trouble, and Paula went out of her way to help- making... More

Truly amazing food, expecially the truffle tagliolini. Excellent wine from the Baracchis. Stefano, the manager was very helpful and friendly. Nice experience.
