There had advised the friends of Syracuse, the place is beautiful and has a lovely courtyard where you can eat outdoors. Good fried anchovies served with a mint pesto, much less good the Polipetti alla Luciana, in reality was an octopus stewed in a sauce too thick and not very tasty. Good grilled tuna, soft and fresh, much less the... More

I made the mistake of not choosing a fish dish, but then they had run out of tuna. My beef in port dish (why not Marsala?) was cloyingly sweet and the beef was tough. It is however in an interesting place and the bread is good.

Second visit at this restaurant and the food was even better than the first time. We had the fritto di paranza, small fishes and squids and calamari fried, delicious. We also tried the little octopuses prepared in some delicious sauce and different pasta dishes. The sarago grilled was amazing, you could really taste the fish and the sea. The wine... More

We arrived on a late Saturday evening in Syracuse and managed to get a table at this beautiful, romantic restaurant. We were seated in the interior courtyard with magnificent old walls and arches, striking a perfect balance of casual and romantic elegance. We enjoyed the animated scene of all-local patrons who devoured large quantities of fragrant and beautifully presented dishes.... More

Nice interior, trendy yet old building was wonderfully retored, good choice to sit inside or on a warm day/evening outside. Staff was friendly, helpful, professional. We had seafood starter (octopus, shrimps, squid, friend fish), spaghetti with pinia seeds, raisens and capers, grilled swordfish (best I have ever had) and cannolis for dessert. Excellent choice of wines. I was very happy... More

Pepenero has a modern design to it, it's not a traditional Sicilian restaurant. The staff speak perfect English, which was helpful, as my Italian is terrible. My partner asked for a bellini or rossini, and although they were not able to offer that to her, they did create a cocktail for her which she really enjoyed. The Sicilian wine which... More

Beautiful space-- expensive but worth it if you are in the mood for something more upscale. The wines were wonderful, and fish very fresh. Service was very nice, attentive but not in your face. My guy friend particularly went crazy over the warm chocolate tart-- not too sweet.

If you are looking for a trendy yet traditional sicilian restaurant in Ortigia, this restaurant is an excellent combination. The menu is interesting and offers several exciting choices. The wine list is rich. The decor is modern and simple. The staff is kind, at times a little trendy posh for being in the heart of sicily, but at times also... More

This is a world class Italian restaurant. The food and service is superb. The restaurant was full when we dined there and except for us "tourists" the other diners were all well dressed local people. The tuna with tomatoes was especially wonderful!
